    Artist description
Alternating between haunting melodies and atmospheric soulful grooves, Gypsy Soul create a lush, unforgettable musical landscape. Cilette Swann's exquisitely powerful vocals lead, while partner Roman Morykit balances the band's ethereal edge with inspired bass and guitar counterpoint. Cilette writes lyrical tales with empassioned insight and Roman creates the evocative musical tapestry which the two effortlessly marry. Roman, an experienced producer with ten CDs to his credit, handles all the production for Gypsy Soul. Their extraordinary music has been likened to artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, Loreena McKennitt, Chris Isaak, Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin. The two met in Scotland and have traveled the world together bringing to their music the influences of many cultures. Gypsy Soul's inspiration also stems from their diverse roots: Roman is British, of Italian and Ukranian decent, while Canadian-born Cilette's heritage is Irish and South African. Their sound reflects this diversity and is categorized as World/Folk-Rock as often as it is Celtic/Americana. Their award winning three independent CDs, Test of Time, Sanctuary and their holiday release, Sacred have garnered enormous critical acclaim and radio support. Their songs have been heard on over 700 radio stations nationwide and abroad charting at #36 on the Gavin AC Chart with "Silent Tears". Gypsy Soul have received press in most of the entertainment trades including: Billboard, Album Network, R & R, Raygun Publications huH and Bikini, Hollywood Reporter, Dirty Linen and Performing Songwriter among others. Sanctuary is also an enhanced CD and features a M-TV quality video along with interviews, live footage and photo gallery. Gypsy Soul have just completed their fourth CD, entitled Superstition Highway, which is scheduled for an international release in the Summer of 2001. To date their CD sales have reached approximately 40,000. The band has had over 30 airings of its music on numerous film and television shows on all the major U.S. Networks. These include the season finale of the hit NBC show, "Providence," an ABC 'Movie of The Week' entitled, "Trapped in a Purple Haze", CBS' "The Young and The Restless," and The Melissa Etheridge hosted show, "Beyond Chance" among others. The song "Talk To Me" is also featured in the pivotal scene on the new Brooke Shields feature film entitled, "After Sex". Their music is also featured in a new independent feature film entitled, "Good Neighbors". In the performance arena, the group has toured/headlined nationally and internationally at hundreds of festivals, colleges and respected night clubs including: The Troubadour, Luna Park, The Coach House, Key Club among others. Gypsy Soul have also opened for many award winning artists including: Grammy winners Larry Klein and Toni Childs, Los Lobos, Beth Neilsen-Chapman and Martin Page to name a few. With the advent of MP3s, Gypsy Soul have been making amazing in-roads on the web. Their "Somewhat Acoustic" CD has been the best selling DAM CD on MP3.com. The group has had nine #1 songs on MP3.com in the World/Folk, Celtic, Folk, Soft Rock, Folk/Rock and Traditional categories. They earned the #3 position on the TOP 40 in overall downloads with 6 concurrent #1s in February 2001. Their version of "True Love/Scarborough Fair" has held the Number One position in the Folk Charts on and off for almost a year. Their music has charted and/or been featured on virtually every internet music site. The group also created their own independent label, Off The Beaten Track Recordings, which is home to three other artists they have produced. Now with the recent consulting agreement and association with The WorldSound Corporation, Off The Beaten Track Recordings is able to provide its artists with licensing, distribution, promotion in both the national and international arenas.
