Artist description
"A huge sound & monstrous groove driven by a first rate rhythm section, with just enough variety and occasional moments of subtlety in the guitar playing of Jason S. to keep things interesting. If the likes of 'cleansing' era prong or helmet do it for you, keep an eye out for this local threesome." Drum media 3rd Aug, 1999." |

Artist History
Emerging from another Sydney based band 'Crane No.6', who, in their three year history clocked up over 100 shows, toured Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide & just about everywhere in-between. They played with national & international acts such as 'The Mark of Cain', 'Shihad', 'Grinspoon', 'Nitocris', 'Testeagles', 'Strapping Young Lad (Canada), 'Henrys Anger' & 'Alchemist' to name a few. They were also featured as 'The band of the month' appearing on the front cover of the French music magazine 'Planet Hard'. The full length of their EP was played on Triple J's 'Three hours of Power', air play over local stations such as 2SER. They were also included on the Triple J compilation album 'Thirteen'. Crane No.6 went their separate ways early in 1998.So this is where they are now, Jason Brown(bass/vocals), Jason Schellhorn(guitar/vocals) & brother Gary Schellhorn(drums), formed September 98'. By January 99' they had recorded all of their pre-production, which by August 99' would become their debut EP 'spins you', released on a new label, P.O.P & distributed through MGM. Recorded at 'Velvet Sound Studios' Sydney over 4 days & mastered by Steve Smart at 301. The 4 track EP also features a unique concept developed by the band. They have called it A.V. (audio vision) , Which goes along with the whole theme of the EP, it offers something a little different for people while still maintaining the potent presence of all the music. The shows they have started with have proven to be very ambitious so far, while opening for 'Monster Magnet', sold out at the Metro in Sydney, 'Testeagles', 'Insurge', 'Dogbouy', 'Tumbleweed', 'Nunchukka Super Fly', 'Loki', 'Thumblock', 'Rollerball'. 'Segression','Fresh Fabrik' from Hungary and many other local bands throughout Sydney. Costa Zuoliou of triple j's 'Three Hours of Power', as with Neil Rogers of Melbourne's 3RRR have been giving the EP plenty of airplay as with many other local & community radio stations. Dropweight plan to tour with their EP 'spins you' throughout 1999. Dropweight will, as they are already, starting & finishing work on their next project, a debut album to be released early 2000. Keep an ear out for the EP, the new sounds, the film clip for 'dan dan' or better still, get along to see them live, you too will be caught up in all that is dropweight........... |

Press Reviews
DRUM MEDIA, 3RD AUGUST 1999"Live reviews""Dropweight are one new band with their shit together, with an EP (spins you) already on the way that l've been lucky enough to hear a preview of and a website up and running. The trio consisting of Jason Schellhorn guitars/vocals, Jason Brown Bass/vocals, both ex Crane No.6, along with Gary Schellhorn on drums. They've retained the heavy guitar crunch that Crane were known for, though overlaid with clean, often melodic vocals shared to great effect by the two Jason's. A huge sound & monstrous groove driven by a first rate rhythm section, with just enough variety and occasional moments of subtlety in the guitar playing of Jason S. to keep things interesting. If the likes of 'cleansing' era prong or helmet do it for you, keep an eye out for this local threesome." |
