Rock Musician's Paperweight Turns out Gyro Used to Guide US Nuclear Air Cruise Missile.
"The strange parts were scattered all over the place, " said The Count, rock band "CRANKCALLER" front man. It seems the rented North Hollywood, CA. industrial unit by members of rock band CRANKCALLER was previously occupied by "Fuzzy"- (known for his long hair)- an illegal sub, sub-contractor employed by Northrop Grumman for the US Government, manufacturing some of the most intricate parts of the Air Cruse Missile. Just so happens a full NBC 20/20 Investigation Team was hot on the trail of "Fuzzy". "It's was like a bad episode of COPS, said The Count- "Suddenly the guy from the news (Tom Gerald) burst in, camera rolling, in our faces asking which one of us was Fuzzy!" The investigation had led the 20/20 crew to the now rehearsal space. Fuzzy was long gone, however, the band mates were able to prove identity and (to the glee of 20/20) produce several items left behind by the former tenants: "Government Approved" stickers by the box, circuit boards, classified documents, and the now infamous $9,000 paperweight. The Count adds, "It truly shocks me that this (gyro) could have ended up in a Air Cruse Missile, telling it where to go. Personally, I think it works perfectly fine as a paperweight."
20/20 did a segment chatting with CRANKCALLER band members while they shared their finds with Tom Gerald.
CRANKCALLERs full length album, "Altogether Darker World" is due out 04-25-03

CRANKCALLER from the CD, "New improved altogether darker world"
A luminous inner glow is present in all the tracks in this first offering from Hard Trip-Rockers "CRANKCALLER".
"HIGH FREqUENCY" is a song abetted by a battering beat, contagious chorus and guitar grinds off the lip. It is beyond tight and plays off the time of life, so there you go, iron-handedly bobbing your head.
"WORLD OF THE UNDERDOG" sets a POP tone, then a slap in the face bass line. Bruising lyrics, like "Every time I turn to walk away I step in shit" decorate this up tempo almost danceable diddy. "I AM VAMPIRE" is in its own head space, containing a theme that invokes wild imagery wile sucking you in to its sweet hooks. "I AM VAMPIRE" is "The†Count" CRANKCALLER front man's signature song. "THRISTY" is what one would call the soulful ballad with all the trimmings, although I found it invigorating and quite yummy for a ballad... "Gunna blood let tell I feel the power, I'm gunna leave you in your darkest hour"... just about say it all.
"JUNKY GIRL" rocks hard with a 21st century sonic approach that gives it an edge- a razor edge. "It's a new and improved altogether darker world these days, this is how I'm feeling. You can see it, you can hear it, you feel it, it's ingrained in these songs." says The†Count.
CRANKCALLER has grasped the value of simplicity with this collection of intense songs. Forceful rock elements and, at times, tripped-out melodic interludes happen for all the right reasons. It's both the "now" and the "futuristic" sounds that make CRANKCALLER truly timeless.

Accidental reception of undercover police transmission is transformed into art.
.
Las Vegas NV. - With the use of several unconventional musical instruments, from two - way radios to washing machines filled with rocks on the spin cycle, Hard Trip Rockers, "CRANKCALLER" never premeditate the musical process.
.
In one such experiment the guys ended up with more than they expected, receiving a two-way transmission from undercover law enforcement officers. The guys were amused to find a stakeout going down only a few streets over from the recording studio. As The Count, CRANKCALLER front man put it, "Someone left the two-way radio on and it all ended up on tape. When I heard it I actually felt personally involved. Surveillance is a dirty job, you could just feel It- like in the movies. We knew someone was going down… we heard personal stuff but nothing to compromise anything, no names." It was at that time Count decided to include select clips from the infamous, erroneously captured secret law enforcement transmission in the CRANKCALLER song, "OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN". "It's just plain funny to hear one cop call another 'buttercup'," says Count. Hear the clip on the CRANKCALLER band website (www.crankcaller.com) . |
