    Artist History
BABY NEW YEAR Baby New Year was formed in March 1993 when two hard working musicians got together to create a unique and rebellious style of melodic hard rock. When guitarist Michael Jos and vocalist Daniel Stuart Simpson first starting writing music together there was an immediate chemistry. Although they had many of the same musical tastes, they also had some very diverse musical backgrounds. This merging of sounds helped create the essence of Baby New Year…Steely-edged rock with a moody atmosphere that is both hypnotic and entrancing to any listener. In June 1993, Baby New Year recorded their first self-entitled demo at the famed Clubhouse in Germantown, NY. This demo was used to procure gigs and promote the band over the radio. In October 1993, Baby New Year appeared on WVCR in Albany to promote their next two headlining shows at Saratoga Winners and The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY. Baby New Year continued their drive for success with radio airplay on WPDH (Poughkeepsie, NY) and WPYX (Albany, NY). In addition, they were invited back to headline The Chance in Poughkeepsie for a second time during April 1994. In May 1994, Baby New Year was one of only 10 bands chosen to play The Freedom Woodstock Festival. They opened for the venerable Jackson Brown and to an overwhelming applause from the crowd. In September 1994, Baby New Year went back in the studio to record a full length CD consisting of 11 new songs. They continued to play live and built their fan base playing some of the hottest NYC clubs such as CBGB’s. In April 1995, Baby New Year was one of only 20 artists chosen amongst 4000 worldwide acts to be part of an unsigned compilation CD entitled “Sounds From The Underground”. It was well touted in the music industry and received extensive airplay overseas and in the states. They continued to actively gig throughout the tri-state area until early 1997 when they went back into the studio to record their third EP. With three scorching new tunes, BNY continued to develop their unique and melodic style. They found themselves playing some of the best-known clubs in Manhattan (CBGB’s, Downtime, The Bank, Spiral, Pyramid, etc…) and gearing up for their first east coast tour. 1998 brought Baby New Year considerable strife when the Drummer and Bass Player left the band for personal reasons. Michael Jos and Daniel Stuart Simpson began to focus heavily on writing new material and finding replacement members that would compliment the Baby New Year sound. 2000 was the beginning of the new era for Baby New Year (‘The Millennium’). The band went into the studio to record three new songs. By the end of 2000, BNY’s new EP was completed and was considered their strongest effort to date. Without wasting a moment, Baby New Year was out supporting the new release while continuing to fine-tune their live show performance. A show to end all shows…encompassing passionate melodic rock and a New Year’s party to remember. In 2001, BNY added drummer Kevin Distel and Second Guitarist Steve Fleck to the lineup and it helped invigorate the Baby New Year live sound and presence as well as the overall harmony of the band. And finally…………………… Now in 2002, the Baby is laying the groundwork for what we hope to be a very memorable year. We will be recording a new CD this summer and are looking forward to a tour in the fall.
