Artist History
Cheb Aziaz
Cheb means "young singer" and is related to the elder generation of singers called Cheiks. The female counterpart is Cebba and Cheika.
Cheb Aziz is probably the only rfeal Cheb in Scandinavia. He has been singing rai at weddings and festivals since the age of 12. In his native country Marocko he was active as a professional artist, with a LP record as well as preformances in radio and TV among his merits.
The Marockoan backgreound of Cheb Aziz is an interesting compliment to the Algerian dominated rai-music.. With his roots in the border-city of Oujda he contributed to sprteading the rai all across the country. The language used was Arabic and French in combination with the rai-music´s flirt with the English.
Cheb Aziz now makes himself marked by being the first rai-artist of Sweden to sing in Swedish. He has prodused a singel with the soing "Mera Mål", in honor of the Swedish national fotballtema. (Maybe it worked as inspiration for Markoolio´s "mera Mål"?)
The song was broad-casted in the Swedish national radio, chanel3, together with an interview with Cheb Aziz. |
