"I think I finally found the love of my life…. Here is my bio: I get awkward when the sun goes down. Maybe I’m still afraid of the dark. I have brown hair (with hints of red) that I got from my dad, I’m 5’6. I’ve been playing guitar on and off for 6 years. Acoustic guitar for 2. I like sitting outside on Sunday afternoons. Among many other things, I am a painter, a writer, a guitarist, and a dork. I make myself laugh sometimes for no reason at all. I’m slightly insecure, but completely sure of who I am. I don’t like reptiles, I’m obsessed with sound, and yes, I still believe in soul mates... Here’s my story: "As much as I'd like to say it was always easy.. it wasn't. " -gd 22 year old Genny Dolore' is anything but ordinary. Although the young singer/songwriter has only been playing acoustic guitar for 2 years, her sound and words show signs of maturity and passion and she finally seems to be putting it all together. Raised in Texas, Genny grew up riding a skateboard pushing the limits as far as she could, and dreaming dreams bigger than the sky. She started playing electric guitar at the age of 15 when she joined a female punk band as lead singer. She experimented in many bands through the next year from ska, to the pixies/sonic youth influenced dream pop, strumming away and singing the words of her soul. By the age of 16, Genny knew she wanted to experience the "real-world" and concentrated hard in studies which lead to her graduation at the young age of 16.She pursued a college education but soon after discovered her talent in graphic design. This talent lead her to jobs she had only dreamed about and for someone her age it was impossible to pass up. She worked hard the next year.. stilll holding stong to her roots in skating and by the age of 17, Genny stopped attending college and had networked herself in the skateboarding community which allowed her to travel on the Van's Warped Tour selling merch for her favorite punk bands. It was at this point when she discovered her passion for travel and music. Genny continued touring every summer until her 20th birthday when she decided to pack everything up and head out west. The struggle was hard, with barely enough money to pay rent, somehow she managed to buy her first acoustic guitar, and that's when she fell in love with sound. She played awkwardly at first, used to the power chords and heavy riffs from her past, made writing music to her soft melodies tough. She played to soothe her soul and started taking interest in the music of Ani Difranco, Edie Brickell and Ben Harper. Genny seemed to find her inspiration more and more in watching the sun fall over the ocean and in a new face she collided with that brought her hope. This is when she wrote her first single "stars". Later that same year, she was faced with a life changing event. Genny witnessed what no one person should ever have to experience, a crime in her home which resulted in death, and later forced forced her to be apart from the one whom had brought her so much peace. She went through the following days almost as if she was in a daze and had forgotten that she was living, not knowing up from down, not wanting to open her eyes from sleep. Not knowing any other way to turn she moved back to Texas to be close to family. At this point she really discovered writing music. Genny's songwriting became something that was her own, it became a way for her to deal with the painful memories of loss and love and watching her whole life get turned upside down, playing guitar was what ultimately helped her discover who she was. Music became her vice, her best-friend and her way out. She played it with passion and spent hours getting lost in the sounds of Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Jewel, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, the Buena Vista Social Club and many others. That fall, Genny took a trip to Mexico where she spent time writing about her loss and her experience on her journey. When she returned home she encountered a fellow musician who discovered the smooth, sultry voice she had hidden away from the world. This friend encouraged her to write and play and shortly after the two played her first show. Feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the world again, Genny moved back to California with a new found confidence. She spent hours roaming the streets of the place that had haunted her dreams, and one day found herself sitting in the home of friend Mark Rasmussen (Whiskey Records). She jokinglypicked up a guitar and told him, "listen to this, I'm going to be the next big thing" and went on to quietly sing her newest love song. Mark instantly fell in love with the sound and put her in a small studio to record her first song. Since then Genny has been writing non-stop and playing around the San Diego, Orange County, LA areas. She is finishing up a 6-song e.p. with producer Riz Story (Anyone) and has been polishing her guitar skills in her free time. She is still healing from her wounds but seems to have found herself in music. When you see her live you can feel the intensity of her songs and the power of her words. It's as if she exposes her whole heart & soul to you and manages to make you feel like everything is always going to be okay. She brings to the table her own brand of hook-laden acoustic melodies with such style and charisma that you are warmed to the soul and find yourself singing along. Genny's voice and character have such a sense of humbleness and realness that make you want to take her in like a breathe of fresh air.
