Press Reviews Envy "Sweet Painful Reality" - - - - - Once in a blue moon an album comes along and grabs hold of you, it brings you into the depths of its creator who takes you on an aural journey through their own corner of this vast world. Each song is a piece of the puzzle, fitting together to create sonic pictures that can be both ugly and beautiful at the same time. This soundtrack opens up a reflective space worthy of praise and reverence. "Sweet Painful Reality," the debut album from Colorado based artist Envy, is a sound scape painted on a canvas of beautiful pain. The opening track "Snow" begins the travels into auteur Niko's world, the track lends a catchy and driving beat complete with an ethereal background of symphonic strings. There is a sense of stop and go with the track that takes one by surprise and just when you think it has chilled out for a moment it is coming back up again to shake some life into you. The following track "Indulgence" is a beautiful ballad-esque piece complete with piano backing up a mellow metal guitar riff. As the album progresses, one ultimately sees that there are no wasted words, no wasted riffs and no wasted melodies. This is true craftsmanship at its very best with songwriting worthy of comparison to the passion of Trent Reznor, in its intensity of subject matter. An album as diverse as "Sweet Painful Reality," is deserving of the utmost praise, there is not a boring moment on this recording.
