Artist History I was born Dean Paul Kupetz, January 6th 1972 in Reading Pa. My friends call me Devakant. I lived in a small town in north eastern pa for most of my childhood and adult life. I left my home at the age of 16 to find my freedom. I started using drugs at the age of 13 and by the time I was 18 I was in Intensive Care on my deathbed. Searching to find myself it seemed I had lost myself instead. I had lived on the streets in basements , wherever I could find a place to lay my head. This is the time I started using my guitar and poetry as a means to express myself. I would sit for hours and just pour my emotions through a few chords on the guitar , it was a new reality , reaching through my music to a place I longed to be. Out of the chaos of drug addiction and mind trips , to the freedom of love , peace and strength that burned in my heart. This desire for freedom has stayed with me through the hardest times of my life , I struggled for the next 15 years just trying to get a grip. I went from street drugs to jail , to the psychoanalyst , to prescription drugs , but it was the same trip , I lost my mind , I needed something real and at 28 when was at the end of my rope , I found it , I was turned on to Meditation and life has been forever changed. The last 3 years of my life have been a shower of blessings. It is sheer joy to be alive and the only thing in my life I live for is the celebration of life and to share all I have in my soul through the music. For all those that have traveld the same rivers and over the same shores , this is for you , with trust we will find each other again in the Ocean of our dreams. Additional Info Love: This music has been the greatest gift of grace that I have ever known. It has brought me through so many tears while giving me so much laughter and joy. It was one of the only reasons I tried so long and fought so hard. It has poured inspiration through the darkest nights and shared its infinite love standing in the light , full of spirit , the spirit beating in your heart , melting into this mysterious Ocean of life. I've flown many seas of joy and sorrow , always coming back to the music, just wanting to share. Through 14 years of reaching , flying and bleeding I have written many songs , each of them very personal and yet each of them written for someone traveling the same dusty road. I have learned that the greatest challenges in our lives can become our greatest victories. After 14 years of being lost in a world of drug addiction , self abuse and chaos , I have come home. Through meditation and awareness, through this dance of love we call life, I have found my wings, and I am grateful to share the song in my heart that carries me softly through this night , moment to moment , into the light.
