Artist History
In may '98 - born from the ashes of two other budapest bands - a new band saw the light of day in the heart of hungary, under the name of newborn. originally a 4 piece these young men went out with the plan to achieve some seemingly pretty simple things: make beautiful songs to touch people's hearts, write beautiful words to fuck people's minds, and create a crazy live atmosphere where everyone is considered equal, and feels welcome. newborn try to find the perfect balance of what they feel is the most important about the hardcore punk scene: be a little funny to make people smile, and be a little serious to make people think.
later on, since their musical boundaries needed to be widened, they first had a part-time solution for the position of the second guitar player, but in december 2000 they finally found their very own second guitarist, gabor, who these days is considered a full-time newborn member.
after three releases on five different labels, newborn finally found a new and stable home at munich's very own join the team player records. the first newborn out of this marriage is going to be a 10 song full-length which is scheduled to be released in summer 2002.
their music is a little hard to describe as it lies somewhere between nordic metal, and both schools of hardcore punk music. they also consider their lyrics an important part of the songs. as the band puts it: "our lyrics keep on fighting for something more to be achieve in a world which has absolutely nothing to offer for all those starving hearts who want something more out of life than what those fucked up forces try to sell us through different fucked up channels.
after their very well received split 12"/cd with catharsis and uncountable live shows literately all over europe the expectations are high and the band says to expect a perfect mix of crazy music.
after three smaller and one extensive european tours they hope to tour again late summer/early fall 2002 to promote their new record, and to have fun with all those crazy old - and probably some new - exciting friends. |

Press Reviews
Newborn "In These Desperate Days..." 7"/MCD (Erdkampf 007 / Turnstile Records)
These guys rock, no doubt, they kick ass. I was looking forward to see them in Plzen cause many people told me that they are really good (shame on my head, I did not know them before this release...), and they completely satisfied me. NEWBORN are not metal as everyone says, they combine a breathtaking drive, speed, melodies, well thought out lyrics and danceable parts to a bastard fans ranging from the old school to the Florida mosh (Shai Hulud) will dig into. They do this fast playing with the 2nd guitar laying these harmonies over it which gives me a shiver. Especially when they calm down a moment they close the gap between modern old school and moshing new school. The singer is able to deliver some emotions within his screaming, and the lyrics are really understandable and good. The only problem is that this is too short. 5 songs, then it is over, I am desperetaly waiting to see them live again with Catharsis and to listen to their the split of these 2 bands. Get this!

Needless to say that everyone looked out for this record. To say what needs to be said right in the beginning: Catharsis will never disappoint any of their fans with this, and Newborn successfully prove that the hype around their band is nothing but justified. In detail: Catharsis blast off with their 9 minutes long hymn that contains everything that you would expect. From the desperate piano part in the beginning, underlined with a strange intro they blast into that metallic, dirty groove you all like em for. The whole song shifts between these fast screamed parts and some hard rocking slowdowns, completed by that hoarse screams that ... is famous for. 1 song, nine minutes, not a second boring. Newborn are doing what they can do best on here. 4 songs, combining all the influences I learned to love them for. That fast beat with this extremely tight rythm section, combined with these great slowdowns and that guitar that delivers you melodies you will never forget. As you might know Newborn are one of my favorites this summer, and they underlign this on here. Maybe all these twisted rythms, this hilarious drive shifting between fast beets and quite complicated rythms figures will sound chaotic to someone with the first listening, but trust me, these songs unfold faster than you can imagine. HC with a message in an already classic release. Get this release, please. Check the Catharsis MP3!

NEWBORN were much talked about before, I did not know them and so it was the
biggest surprise of the festival to see these guys in action. Fast, furious melodic
and hard hitting hardcore, influenced by Shai Huluds guitarwork, they set the
place onfire instantly. For some other people I talked to the best quite newcoming
band of the festival. CD on Erdkampf Records, read the review and enjoy them!
