Artist description lorraway is a progressive rock band that hails from Mississauga, Ontario. Their unique blend of odd-meter shenanigans, enchanting melodies, and the occasional aggressive outburst separates lorraway from the traditional refrigerator buzz of the mainstream and makes for a cleverly intense live show. lorraway derives inspiration from bands and artists such as Yes, Radiohead, Gentle Giant, Jeff Buckley, Sunny Day Real Estate, Brad Meldhau and Tool. These influences, which come from an incredibly large variety of different styles, help lorraway define a truly new yet enjoyable sound. lorraway was formed in the fall of 1998 by high school chums Chris Tassone - vocals, Justin Weeks - guitar, and Peter Szpunar - drums. In December of 1999, the boys went into the studio to record their first EP entitled If You See Kay... The EP was launched at Edge 102.1's Live at the Kingdom Friday in mid 1999 with host Martin Streak who played a selected track on air. Since this recording had Justin playing the guitar and bass tracks, a bass player had to be found so lorraway could play live. After several months of painful searching, they turned to their boyhood friend Brian Viggiani to play bass. With Brian in the line-up, a new sound began to develop. lorraway began to play locally and built a fan base. lorraway continued to play in Ontario and Quebec until they went back into the studio in the summer of 2000 to record their second EP entitled Population of Loss. The five-song EP showed a definite evolution in lorraway's sound as their creativity and fan base increased. In March of 2002, the first track from the Population of Loss demo, Restraint was played on Edge 102.1 during the Epic Special of the program Over The Edge. lorraway is constantly writing new material, adding various new instruments such as piano and vibraphone to increase their harmonic and melodic quality. Though their sound gradually evolves, it remains as enjoyable as any of their previous material.
