Artist description
Joe Zelek is a recognized talent in the Pittsburgh area. Best known thus far for his drumming with former Atlantic Records recording artists the Gathering Field, both on tour and in the studio since 1999, he currently tours with Backyard Galaxy featuring Bob Rice and Bob Lesnefsky (AKA Righteous B). Having studied with some of the best drummers in the nation, Zelek has developed a level of skill, style and musical diversity that has moved such local favorites as Dave Pahanish and Paul Hannan to invite him to perform on their albums, and has made him a consistently sought after session drummer.
His work with musicians of such caliber has culminated in the release of his first solo project, LONG DISTANCE SUNDAY. Zelek demonstrates his own singer/songwriter chops with tracks like the upbeat, confessional "There Were Days" and the anthem-like "Here to There." Pahanish, Hannan, and Bill Deasy (creative force behind the Gathering Field) all make guest appearances, lending their weight to an already solid release. The album as a whole is introspective yet accessible, with insightful, soulful lyrics and a vital sensibility throughout. LONG DISTANCE SUNDAY is available from local retailers as well as online at www.joezelek.com.
