Artist History
"It's one thing to be big in Japan. But what if the music that made you big in Japan made other people big everywhere else? That was the fate suffered by Fozzy, the most influential band nobody ever heard. "Back in 1980, when we started, there was no heavy metal," says frontman Moongoose McQueen, who looks alarmingly like prowrestler Chris Jericho. "There was only punk and disco and new wave. We're the parents of heavy metal music. But Fozzy was so ahead of the times that nobody understood us. That's why we were forced to go to Japan, and why we signed the reocord deal that left us stranded over there for 20 years." While the Fozzsters labored in obscurity, the group's demos---smuggled out of Japan by fanatic fanatics--were snapped up by the likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Twisted Sister, etc., who claimed Fozzy's groundbreaking music as their own.--Guitar World Magazine |
