    Artist description
In late December 2001, Joe Sabatini found himself pondering the possibility of slipping into the dark recesses of rock ‘n’ roll obscurity. The abrupt departure of former band-mates Chris and Joe, coupled with numerous financial strains, left DASHBOARDJESUS buckling under the pressure of a growing list of canceled gigs and recording deadlines. Eventually, Joe called on the services of friend and studio drummer Mike Fortunato. Joe had met Mike during recording session at Fleetwood Recording Studios and was instantly drawn by Mike’s overall musicianship and his ability to perform under pressure. Before Joe could ask the question, Mike had already known a large amount of DASHBOARDJESUS material and was quick to assume the position. It was the addition of Tom Lanzillo, the former bass player and lead vocalist for the band Uncle Freak that completed the final line up and injected new life into DASHBOARDJESUS. First conceived in 1997 by founder Joe Sabatini, DASHBOARDJESUS could be considered in the rock genre as a heavy/rock alternative band. Steve Morse of the Boston Globe said the three-piece band is, “an intense, heavy-rock band whose sound lies somewhere between the industrial mesh of Nine Inch Nails and the street side of Pearl Jam.” After years of countless gigs and endless recording sessions that devoured the likes of many musicians including three bassists, four drummers, and two guitar players, DASHBOARDJESUS had finally come together. As luck would have it, losing the band in the middle of recording the album turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The introduction of Mike and Tom not only marked a turning point in the band’s history, but also elevated the band to a new level of intensity both on stage and off. In January 2002, the newly formed and highly charged members focused immediate attention on the completion of the self-titled CD. The recruitment of the two veteran musicians opened doors of musical diversity that ultimately shaped the sound and direction of the band. With the new release, Dashboard began gigging the catacombs of the Boston club scene. The response of audiences, coupled with support of radio such as WAAF, ultimately gave the band long deserved recognition in the local music arena. In March of 2002 the newly released CD was distributed into all twenty-four Newbury Comics, as well as several other record retailers in the New England region. In the following months radio play intensified. DASHBOARDJESUS songs like, “Feeding the Monkey,” “Tunnel Vision,” and “In Between,” began appearing regularly on WAAF's playlist as well as other stations. As for what’s on the horizon for the three-piece, there seems to be nothing impeding their progress. With scheduled performances at some of the biggest venues in the area, including Loco Bazooka, 2002 has proven to mark a pivotal point in the band’s progression. The success of the band could be considered miraculous, being that only four months prior Joe found himself gig-less, band-less, and near homeless while juggling the positions of manager and producer at failing Fleetwood Recording Studios. It took tremendous effort to sustain production of the CD through adversity and financial strain. It was the combination of this drive and the hard work and dedication of all the people involved, that paved the way for the months to come and continues to make the success of the band a reality.
