Artist description
Our band, Ketch Mily, consists of a bunch of friends who met at Green Mountain College, a small school in Vermont. Here at Green Mountain you have to make your own fun, and so one night when we all were bored, we got together and started making music with whatever we could find. Our instruments that night in 1998 were a classical guitar with four strings, a tenor banjo, a drum kit made of pots and pans, and vocals sung through a computer microphone. We made our neighbors pretty angry, but we had so much fun that we started to jam together regularly.
Eventually, we got around to buying real instruments, and we began to realize that we could actually play some reconizable songs. Our regular repetoire encluded some original songs, as well as some covers of tunes by The Band, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, and the like. This kept us occupied and also pleased our friends, who had us play at a few small parties and gatherings. Gradually, we made more musical friends, and Ketch Mily grew and grew. However, we still hadn't found our true musical voices.
Our real breaktrough came when we got ahold of a musical recording program for a pc. Finally, we could mix our own tracks, just like our hero, Beck. We began to experiment, and a year later, we had enough tracks to put out an album, which includes the songs you see here.
The songs posted here represent our first achievement of what we call "real" music: it is original, creative, and was lots of fun to make. In it, you'll hear influences from just about everywhere, from funk, to bluegrass and folk, to good old rock and roll. We are proud of its uniqueness, and hope it gives you lots of listening pleasure. Give it a try and tell us what you think.
