We are a 5 piece band in the Seattle area. Our music uses a mixture of ideas and backgrounds to create a collage of beauty and darkness. Our influences are broad but all have touched us deeply in ways we can only express through music.

    Artist History
ESITU... you would think that a cancer was spreading through out the Northwest if you knew that ESITU had become a reality. Whether it means to see how it is, or just meaningless dribble, the word ESITU was originated from the minds of two drunken hard rock fans in a bar, trying to figure out what to name their acoustic outfit. Stephen Schallert and Anthony Froiland were two aspiring musicians that met through a mutual friend. The two young lads played music for months, venting their musical talents through an acoustic guitar, and a voice that sounded like the likes of Peter Murphy having a conversation with Aaron Lewis. These two had a vision; to bring back thought to a musical message that would also inspire the lengthening of attention spans. It's not easy to say what would come next... Out of coincidence, the third member of their outfit, Kyle Lawrence, was discovered at a local record store, drooling over the long awaited release of the latest album by one of his favorite bands. Working vigorously through out the summer, the three piece would play endless impromptu shows on the Kirkland waterfront, looking to expose their music as much as possible. Their aspirations were to eventually form a full band, but when the search for members began, none who tried out had a similar vision. Eventually this would lead to Anthony's departure from the group to pursue other journeys. Between October 2001, and January 2002, ESITU would hit a slump, continuously trying out people to play bass and drums. However, none of these people were on the same "wavelength" as Kyle and Stephen. Not until Jeff Zigweid jammed with the twosome on their first song "Mali". It was an instantaneous match, which was interesting, since the original vision never called for a keyboardist. However, this only taught Steve and Kyle a lesson. Never close your doors to the light of unexpected creativity. One instrument down, two to go. We still need bass and drums, damnit!! It's too bad Bryan Smith likes Sepultura! With a lack of a rhythm section, yet now armed with electric instruments as apposed to acoustic, things were looking up. Matt Bentley was brought into the picture through an unexpected meeting in the parking lot of a local Guitar Center. Is that snow? Matt says no, but he did exchange phone numbers with Steve. Putting forth effort that was abnormal for most first time bassists, and exhibiting the traits of a person who was career oriented, focused, and creatively responsible... Matt was in. Now, the hardest part was to face these four eager to be musicians.. to find a GOD DAMN DRUMMER!!! But luckily... Jeff pulls through. After a quick search on the Internet, Nick was found, died, and was replaced by Jonathan Black immediately. The circle was now complete... and I see your Schwartz is as big as mine. Jonathan had everything ESITU needed... a drum set, a keen sense of rhythm, and the ability to shut the hell up when someone else is talking. This is a unique and highly needed trait amongst the rest of the band. We love you John, but you just aren't as good as Nick. So, now that the band is in full swing, what should the public expect of us? How bout a demo by June 20th, and a tour de force in as many venues, houses, backyards, and swimming pools as possible throughout the Seattle and Eastside region. What you are likely to expect to hear when listening to ESITU is what we're calling Passive Aggressive Progressive Rock. What that means is uncertain, however the definition will soon be clear to all that hear us, because ESITU will be the definers. As for now... well, if mushrooms have any say in the matter, the Paramount should be sold out soon.
