Artist History
The group is led by 19 year-old singer/guitarist Milena, who left her native New York City for the sprawl of London in 2001 to cement her ideal rock sound: punky guitars, haunting melodies, earnest vocals, and pounding beats. The band immersed themselves in the sounds of 1970s era New York punk, (Patti Smith, Velvet Underground) and late 1960s British rock legends (the Kinks, David Bowie, and the Rolling Stones.)
The result their new e.p., the Underworld…Afterwards, recorded over the summer in New York City, which weaves tales of horror, infatuation, relationships, tragedy with the sounds of the city. The disc produced by Sterling Sound’s Will Quinnell, includes the melodic “Underworld,” the driving “Nightshade” and the quirky “Sleep Slays the Passengers.”
Milena and her previous bands have performed at many New York rock venues including the Mercury Lounge, CBGB’s, and the Knitting Factory. Her London four piece has played the Camden Monarch, Kashmir Club and long to play more. Their live shows are loud and unpredictable and filled with eyeliner and attitude.
