Artist description
We're a Toronto based band that is highly original and tremendously listenable. We are four great friends named Conor, Luke, Jeff and James who have a very special gift to really gel and interact musically with fish and foul alike. We also like to play frisbee in the dark with a black frisbee, which might cause a sprained knee resulting in absence from work. We are currently looking for fun-loving, risk-taking philanthropists who might want to help us conquer Earth. |

Artist History
Canadian composer Luke Mercier has joined forces with Jeff Cardey,a classical guitar virtuoso better known as 'Sharky,'to form a supergroup with James Switzer and Conor B.Luney providing a formidable rhythm suction. Although theband is comprised of your typical two guitars, bass and drums, they are impressively capable of producing symphonic overtoneswhile gracefully maintaining rather cool and foxy 'pock/rop'undertones. Magnificent Octopus was originally formed in May 1993 atToronto, Canada by Mercier and Luney with Grant McAslan andAndreas Salewski on guitar and percussion respectively. Focussingon jazz/folk inspiration and using only acoustic instruments, their first collection of songs 'A Short History of AlbanianJazz' was completed later that summer. In 1995 Cardey joined the band in a bloodless coup replacingMcAslan, as the band moved toward a more electric 'pock/rop'sound. The void left by the departure of Salewski was temporarilyfilled by a drum machine in the band's second collection 'SomethingMagnificent This Way Comes.' Upon hearing the above, Switzer, the heavy-footed drummer, flew from Winterpeg to Toronto toprovide a much needed kick-in-the-pants. |
