Artist History
Jann Klose: An Introduction:
(As featured on Mi2N.com on 2 October 2003)
- German-born Singer/Songwriter gets a break with new EP -
New York, NY - 1 October 2003 - In January 2000, Jann Klose (formerly of Ohio, Kenya, South Africa and, originally, Germany) relocated to New York City, hoping to deliver his unique blend of jazz, pop, blues, rock and folk back to the world from which it came. Since then he has appeared in theatre (The Who's Tommy, the Jekyll & Hyde US national tour and the Jesus Christ Superstar European tour) as well as with his band, where his writing, performances and love of creative experimentation has yielded his new EP "Black Box".
Produced by Grammy Award winner Marlon J. Graves (Herbie Hancock's "Gershwin's World") and mastered by Vlado Meller at Sony Music Studios in New York City, this four-song EP has been well received since its release this spring. Cleveland's Scene Magazine says, "Black Box is a superb new EP of lush orchestral pop and jazz-inflected acoustic ballads - this disc is a real find."
Jann and his band have completed a first leg of touring through the Mid-West in April, a second leg in June that included East Coast appearances, before heading to Germany in August where Jann performed solo in Hamburg and Berlin. The new material has received airplay on various stations in the U.S. and Europe, including Radio Fritz Berlin and live365.com. Jann recently appeared on Joey Reynolds nationally satellited Radio Show on WOR and performed as a guest of the legendary Les Paul at the Iridium in New York.

Press Reviews
By Jason Bracelin, Scene Magazine: Jann Klose's vocal range covers almost as much ground as Klose has himself. A native of Hamburg who has also lived in Kenya, Klose whetted his appetite for music at age 16, when he came to Cleveland as a foreign-exchange student. After finishing his studies in Germany, he returned to Ohio to launch his music career, eventually relocating to New York City in 2000.
Klose is back in town this week, pushing a superb new EP of lush orchestral pop and jazz-inflected acoustic ballads. Sounding like a cross between a young Sting and a less histrionic Jeff Buckley, Klose's voice is pliant and powerful, and it's buffered nicely by the Hammond B3, cello, viola, and violin that brighten these impassioned numbers. From the blithe bebop of the title cut to the Art Garfunkel-sounding "It's Not the Way," this disc is a real find, meaning you'd do well to come to the Grog on Thursday; Klose is one of Germany's finest exports since Warsteiner. |
