Artist description
having recorded with Prince and George Clinton, haloblack have taken the slick funk element into their abstract, almost experimental dance base and created an original, new sound. haloblack's raw electronic rock caught the ears of Prince in 1995. Prince then hired haloblack main-man, bryan black as a sound designer to offset the over-produced sound of current Prince and Paisley Park releases. haloblack used the money earned during this period and funded their own record, 'funkyhell'. Fifth Colvmn Records released 'funkyhell' at the end of 1996 before going belly-up. haloblack were left with a critically acclaimed album and a few support shows with Marilyn Manson. (recently, 'funkyhell' was listed as one of the top 10 essential Industrial-rock albums of all-time by Alternative Press, issue #136.)
in 1997, black re-entered the studio with George Clinton and then made some loops for friend Tricky before moving to London to concentrate on film and side musical project hellbent. haloblack's success on mp3.com (top 10 success artist of 1999) helped secure soundtrack work for the Blair Witch project video game. Before long, bryan was hungry to do something new and bold with haloblack. A chance meeting with vocalist, Arianne (who sung a hit duet with George Michael), proved to be a godsend which has set haloblack on a new path sonically; deep, dark and bleepy, with Arianne's vocals becoming warped and seductive, working seamlessly with the manic music which defines haloblack's current sound. |
