Artist History
el toro began in boston in the summer of 1997 as a grand attempt to paint emotional landscapes, in particular of the awkwardness and drunkenness of love and heartache, with a bass guitar and a few words. after over a year of playing venues ranging from coffeehouses to basements to 'legitimate' clubs, 'the band' fled to the comfort of sunny nyc. but not before the limited debut cassette-only release entitled '(grinder)' - available only directly from the artist - was met with acclaim and confusion. el toro's latest offering, the 'good evening, coney island' seven-inch, is scheduled for release on sandbox records in november. |

Press Reviews
"i've heard it called 'creepy,' i've heard it called 'depressing,' and i've heard it called 'uplifting.' the music of the one-man el toro is unquestionably...unusual - bass guitar and vocals, a little talking and a little singing - the melancholy lyrics and melodies suggest smog or bedhead, while the strange time signatures and unlikely changes betray a math-rock influence." - ggk, allston beef trust (defunct) |
