Press Reviews
"Unique vision and cool voice" Mark Bialczak-Syracuse Post Standard
"Put Pam Swan in front of a microphone, hand her a guitar and stand back" Sue Barker-Binghamton Press
SWAN SHOWS ACOUSTIC COOL..."pamme swan uses 13 songs on Pamarama to share her thoughts big and small.
With rich acoustic guitar and vocals, the Hamilton singer-songwriter can set a pretty mood. The opener, Keep It Simple,
starts the disc off in a sunny way. There are plenty happy moments throughout, too. Yet life's not all giggles, as the edgy stuff like
"Meltdown" and "You Snuck Around" illustrates.
The big picture has more depth the her debut disc."Tango Tree."
Put it on when: You seek the blend of acoustic guitar and wise voice
in a fine singer-songwriter style. MODERN FOLK WITH SWAN BY MARK BIALCZAK
Music Critic for Post Standard, Syracuse. Pamme Swan isn't afraid to let the world
look at her life. With her latest disc "Sprinkles" the singer-songwriter from Hamilton
uses her ringing guitar and unique vocals to detail what makes her tick. With her Joni Mitchell
like vocals unrolling in "Calico Crowns" you just want to know whether her friend Jen helps her
sort it all out. Then there's the good time "Jammin" with some guys from Hamiltonio on "Tequila Manhattans"
"There's more to a buzz than a worm and a lime," she says. The kiddie story "Ed" tells of how she and her kids
came upon their little rat dog Ed. Now he devotedly guards her band stand. Good boy, Ed! Great songs Pamme. "Sprinkles" has 12 songs
and it runs 42:01. Put it on when: You feel like hearing a story teller share her tales on life- past, present, and future.
Mostly happiness and satisfaction.

ACOUSTIC FOLK SINGER SONGWRITER SWAN COMES TO NORWICH, by Jude Seymour Sun Staff Writer
When Pamme Swan takes the stage on August 7th, as the opening act for the Mario DeSantis
orchestra, her face may strike a familiar cord. That's because Swan, a South Hamilton Native is part of three unique
groups that play in and around the Chenango County Area. She'll take the stage in her solo "Incarnation"
at 6 PM at West Side Park. Both her performance of a style which she dubbed "new age folk" and that of the orchestra
are free as part of the Chenango Blues Associations Summer Concert Series. "I've been writing stories since I was
old enough to hold a pencil," said Swan who is originally from Sherburne. "My uncle bought me a subscription to
National Geographic magazine when I was 7 or 8 and I remember being so enthralled in the stories I would make up
stories about them." Swan continues, "my father got a job running Chenango Mutual Insurance in Norwich so we moved to Sherburne
where I met up with the wonderful, musical Keefe family. That's where I picked up a guitar. That's where it all began." She added,
"My parents loved country music so I started out on Johnny Cash, Peter Paul and Mary, and Patsy Cline." but she cited singer/songwriters from
the 1960's such as Joni Mitchell and Cat Stevens as influences on her musical spirit as well. I started downsizing my stories to song lyrics
when I was about 13. I've been playing around for a long time. Now she has preserved some of her music onto a more permanent medium.
"Thanks to digital recording I have a studio set up in my house where I have been busy catching up on recording all the songs I've written over the past
25 years," said Swan. She has three releases which will be available for purchase- 1998's "Tango Tree," and 2002's "Pamorama," and 2003's "Sprinkles." Her
next album which she starts recording this fall will be of an acoustic, bluesy nature. I hope to have it out by 2004. As a solo artist, Swan has toured extensively
through out venues all across central New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and New Hampshire. I recently did a show on "Rhythms" out of Syracuse back in March, followed
by a radio interview on the Home Grown Music Radio out of Syracuse as well. I like to keep busy. Norwich residents may remember her from a performance at the farmers market
on July 23rd. She also just finished a gig with Gilbertsville based hipsters "Fetish Lane" at the Outskirts Bluegrass Festival on July 26th. Swan will head up the Swan Road Trio for
an 8 PM gig at the Earlville Opera House as part of the regional artist showcase on August 22nd. The Earlville based band will join Hamilton's Ed Vollmer
and Zach Flietz, Binghamtons Audrey's Stone, and Hamilton's Bag A Bones at the performance. And finally, Swan is the lead voice for Club Ed, a classic rock band based out of hamilton.
"We're mostly a private party band," said Swan, "we've had 15 gigs so far this summer doing just that, we also have done a lot for Colgate University over the years." The songwriter said she is
excited for the upcoming summer concert series performance. "I really hope people come out for this," she said, "it's a wonderful thing to pull communities together. More people should take
advantage of them. There's no place like Central New York in the summer." She's also excited to reimmerse herself in the previously polluted bar scene. "I'd like to start playing more lounge acts now
that the non-smoking law is passed. I can't wait. Maybe now more people will come out to enjoy music without stinking like a cigarette and getting choked up." |
