Artist description Dubliner Mark Gilligan is just about to release his first, long-awaited, solo cd "Bang the drum". This has been a long-running project lasting almost two years but invariably worth the wait. "Bang the drum" is a collection of songs both from his own repertoire and from his collaborations with many fine songwriters and musicians. It is an intoxicating mix of self-penned numbers, interpretations of classic tunes like "The Lonesome Boatman" and tracks from guest singers Leo O'Kelly, Sonny Condell, Danny Guinan, Darren Byrne and The Mahones. An Insatiable performer, Mark has worked as a session player over the years with the musicians guesting on his album and other luminaries such as Noe; Redding, Shane McGowan, Francie Conway and Amadán to name but a few. A Man of many talents Mark not only excels on the clarinet, tin whistle, bodhran and synth, he also runs a highly successful Irish music agency in The Netherlands and still finds time to pull off perfect imitations of Ronnie Drew. A busy man who likes nothing better than to bang the drum.
