Press Reviews
Punk Planet #54
"The personal is political is pretty darn good in this debut. Its eight tracks are powerfully dissonant, with alternately snarling and melodic female vocals over jagged, noisy guitar. Smart lyrics, fierce energy and a Poly Styrene-meets-Fugazi sound make this one original and suprising.(AT)"

Jersey Beat #73 Spring/Summer 2003
You have to hand it to They Fought Back; they really are one of a kind. Mixing tribal drumming, funk-slap bass lines, banshee vocals and a stomping guitar groove, this New Jersey band creates a sound all their own. Vocalist Tree (yes, Tree) sounds like she is simultaneously channeling the spirits of Janis Joplin and Wendy O. Williams, while the band lurches and romps behind her. At times, this has a definite Rage Against the Machine vibe, during others the Fugazi lilt is striking. Sure, it's not up to the unachievable level of either of those bands, but it's pretty darn close. Resist is an amazing debut from a Jersey band bound to gain much attention in other parts of the world.
From SplendidEzine:
Fans of aggressive politi-punk, take note. They Fought Back are more than competent at laying down harsh and pummeling music, and Tree's fantastic voice soars over them with riot-in-the-streets passion. Keep your eyes on the all-ages circuit; if they're playing in VFW hall near you, their performance will be well worth the donation to Food Not Bombs that's required to get in.

The Aquarian Weekly - February 19, 2003
"A propulsive, powerful, angry, heavy, melodic, riff-driven, funk-fortified alterna-emo-metal-yowl emoted convincingly by the gloriously-voiced "Tree" (female, serious chops) -- this Jersey City
four-piece zero in on what's been bugging 'em 50-seconds into "To Be," the opening track on their brilliant 87 Records debut, Resist.
