Artist description
In 1972 astronomers at an observatory in Australia recorded
the data that the following song is derived from. The signal
was captured emanating from what is now known as Galaxy
NGC 7673, located 150 million light years from earth in the
constellation of Pegasus.
The data was forgotten until June 8, 2001 when scientists
and musicologist worked together to restore the recording
from government archives.
Using the processing speed of modern day desktop computers
The dying star data has been fully restored, converted to midi
data and played back through several banks of synthesizers. The
dancing beads of light lead synthesizer that is analogous to
the original recorded data is backed by a new age electronic rhythm
track that the musicologist felt would be appropriate accompaniment.
Several theories have surfaced as to the interpretation of this
otherworldly music. Some believe the that Opus data/music is the
last breath of a dying star. Others believe that it represents the first
breaths of a newborn star or the initial sequences of an alien DNA..
..What MESSAGE does The Dying Star Opus 7673 hold for you ?
The entire recording is 6 minutes and 52 seconds long and is
available on the CD that is available for purchase. According
to reports from observatory personnel, on-site on the day of
the recording, the final repeated stanza of the data actually
continued for another 117 minutes and 22 seconds but was
not recorded due to a unexplainable equipment malfunction.
The Opus 7673 has been shown to be effective as
an audio aide to:
Group and private meditation,
Prayer,
Love making,
Interpretive dance movement,
and Lucid dreaming.
