Artist description
Edward Antoine was born in Rayne, Louisiana in May 1937, into a family of 12
musically talented brothers and sisters, of which brother Nolan Struck has made
quite a name for himself in the blues world. Coming from a musical family,
Antoine taught himself to play the guitar and earned the name "Blues Picking
King"; he spent his teen years in Lafayette, Louisiana with his "Big Brother"
Lonnie Brooks. The Antoine family spoke Creole French fluently; it was this
French background and his guitar playing ability that earned him a road band
position at the age of 18 with his cousin, Clifton Chenier; in 1965, King
became a vocalist with Clifton's band. King's music is often associated with
that of blues greats Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, and Buddy Guy. King is frequently mentioned as an influence to other musicians, notably Sam Meyers and Eddie Cotton. |
