Artist description BIOGRAPHY OVERVIEW: 2 REAL Occasionally, individuals come together to form a musical group with high expectations of making their own personal distinctive mark in the world of music. Each member of the group makes their own contribution to the potential success of the musical endeavor. Talent, individuality, experience, dedication, enthusiasm, the dream of success and, more importantly, the love of music are the driving force behind most collaborations of this nature. All of these components, and more, are the reasons Steve Boardman and Daniel Mason, members of the pop duo 2 REAL, have been creating music together since their high school days. Steve and Daniel have been playing, writing and performing music from a very young age. Steve Boardman: “I knew there was something more. I wanted to sing harmonies and make music with someone; music that was our own.” Born and raised in Paris, Kentucky, Steve was surrounded by musical influences as a child. “My parents both played many different musical instruments.” But Steve’s interest in music wasn’t tested until he was given a set of drums for his thirteenth birthday. “The drums sparked my desire to experiment with other instruments.” About a year later, he picked up a guitar and naturally made quick progress. Two years later he began playing piano and bass guitar and further discovered his singing talent. As Steve’s vocal ability improved, he began to notice his natural ear for complex harmonies. “In 1991, I was made aware that one of my school mates, Daniel Mason, had an amazing singing voice”, adds Steve. He and Daniel began singing and writing together in the summer of 1993 and the story of the genesis and evolution of 2 REAL began. Daniel’s musical foundation was molded by singing in the church and school choirs. He credits his greatest musical influence to his Mother, who sings Southern Gospel. Daniel Mason: “I picked up a guitar for the first time in my seventh grade music class”. Soon after, his father gave him a guitar of his own and he taught himself to play. When he began singing with Steve his junior year in high school, he noticed his vocal ability improved significantly. “Steve helped fine tune my skills as a musician and vocalist as well as encouraging me to perform publicly”, Daniel adds. Daniel was inspired by the legendary guitar sounds of Kenny Loggins and Garth Brooks. His vocal style was greatly influenced by pop icon Michael Jackson and R&B sensation Brian McKnight. The duo gained popularity playing together on the steps of their college in Lexington, Kentucky and in various local clubs and coffeehouses. At their gigs, they would play styles ranging from Alternative to Country, including Classic Rock, Pop and R&B. Daniel: “Experimenting with different styles really broadened our horizons.” 2 REAL’s edgy pop sound is a brilliant mix of different musical styles. This unique style is showcased in their newest release, “Falling In Love”, from their debut album entitled “BRINGING IT BACK”. All of the songs on the album were written and performed by 2 REAL and it highlights their diverse writing ability. Steve’s clean, crisp and intricate vocals with deep R&B overtones, oddly enough, are a perfect blend with Daniel’s strong, classically pop vocals. This unique mix gives the duo a distinctive sound that enables them to transcend and crossover musical boundaries that few artists would dare to venture. 2 REAL will take the listener on a musical journey from their classically written love song “Love Will Remain” to their straight driving dance tune “Falling In Love”. From there, a techno maze is entered via “I Had A Dream” and the beat is turned around with the Latin flavored dance collaboration “Good Enough”. Finally, 2 REAL “brings it back” with their smooth R&B melody “All I Know”. The duo is anticipating, and has received, a very positive response to their unique style and sound. “BRINGING IT BACK” is truly an unforgettable musical journey!
