Press Reviews
the courage badge - demo (2001); This local North Virginia band gave me a copy of their seven song (23 minute) demo at a recent show, and I'm glad I got the opportunity to check it out. THE COURAGE BADGE are an interesting mix of the many forays of punk rock mixed strongly with some straight up pop tendencies. Influences range from the obvious in NEW FOUND GLORY to more subtle ones like FAIRWEATHER and maybe even some GET UP KIDS. Although the sound quality isn't stunning (it's a demo after all), it's good enough to get a nice impression of the band, and I really like their overall feel. Vocalist, Barrett Mullins has a melodic, yet raspy kind of voice that helps make THE COURAGE BADGE's charm seem a bit more genuine. Since his voice is not quite fit for pure pop music, he has to work a little harder, and I think would come off strong live. The lyrics are all personal, and fairly indepth, and the last song, "I can Barely Breathe," is pretty tense. These guys have been known to play a bit with local favorites, (and soon, world conquerors), OVER IT, and that's a great match if you can catch the two together. Worth checking out. - Pastepunk.com |
