    Artist History
"My art is my face. If you've never seen my face, then you have never met me" Patrick D. McCormick, the only child of Renae and Mike McCormick was born in Harrisonburg VA and grew up in Hampton VA. As the product of a very conservative family, a young Patrick found himself spending most of his time writing poetry that he felt he had to hide. At the same time Patrick began his infatuation with music, primarily punk and experimental. A severe interest had developed in Patrick in combining both forms of his favorite art into boxes of cassette tapes, in which Patrick would record a four string acoustic guitar to his tape deck by inserting an old microphone inside. Then he would move from tape deck to tape deck adding in odd percussion and providing eerie spoken word over his noise. Patrick discovered a whole new world of experimentation on his own when he bought his first computer. At first, the purpose of the 75 megabyte HD MAC was for word processing, but the discovery of the ability to wav edit and manipulate sound became an obsession with Patrick. Perpetual Taxidermy was the result. Several unreleased cassettes exist of experimentation in minimalism. At the age of 15, Patrick met long time friend Arin Bennett. Together they structured Breech Doll, an electronic noise project strongly influenced by horror films. The Project focused on the experimental looping of beats, everyday noises, and edited human voice. During this time Patrick got into many other art forms, including performance art, alt art, and photography. Many Breech Doll cassette tapes were hand dubbed in both Patrick and Arin's houses and were sold by hand. During this time Arin introduced Patrick to software sequencing and sampling. A sampling addiction took place with Patrick, who has since stated: "I want my whole life recorded on tape." However Patrick was getting displeased with writing music in which he could not tie his poetry into. There were times in Breech Doll when both Patrick and Arin read word over the sequences, but they kept becoming fewer and farther between. Patrick's discontent with Breech Doll was in direct relation to not being able to work without boundaries. Arin also left to pursue his own acoustic solo material. After Arin's departure, Patrick found himself back to writing minimalist tracks under the name of Cage Clinic, but he was still unhappy. He felt he had too many influences to be locked down to one project. The debut Cage Clinic record, "Mental Whore," was released along with the third (and final) Breech Doll record, "Dead End". Patrick was looking for something new, and before long he called up, Mike Gosseline (Mykg), a mutual friend of both he and Arin, and asked him if he would be interested in a new project. The project would combine the noise of Breech Doll, the spoken word of Patrick's earlier music, Patrick's early punk influence, and Patrick's growing influence of industrial and EBM music. Another Earthly Dimension was born at the release of "The New Invention". The two 16 year olds found themselves as the only industrial/experimental band in Hampton VA, which made it nearly impossible to find gigs. Instead, the next few years turned (as they were soon to be referred to:) AED into a pure studio project. After the second AED record, "Futile Existence" (which Arin Bennett reappeared doing some vocals), Mykg left the project due to loss of interest. Patrick remained steady and strong, his library of programs came to be some interest to local musician Shane Culliton. Patrick and Shane had been friends off and on in the past and hadn't spoken in a year. Shane came to Patrick requesting to take Mykg's place in AED. Interested mainly in Shane's guitar work, Patrick took him in. The relationship then turned sour once again after few practices, and Patrick decided to not work with him again. Shane completely slandered the new record to everyone he knew , which left Patrick depressed and disillusioned. Jason Bohn, a friend of Patrick's, quickly stepped in to bring up his morale and helped him complete the CD. The third CD, "Emotional Masquerade," went on to become one of the top selling AED records to date, acquiring radio play, and giving the opportunity to Patrick to play in several shows, in connection with the radio, which Patrick turned down. He wanted AED to remain a studio project. Patrick was finding out that AED was quickly becoming a solo project. At the same time, Patrick's writing was becoming more and more intense, questioning everything especially organized religion. The fourth AED album, "Nighttime Story," included no extra musicians and saw Patrick as a solo-musician for the first time since Cage Clinic. The album was meant to be a concept record involving sleep. At the end of the first track Patrick screams "In this nighttime story you fall asleep right now," the last vocals on the record screamed "wake up!" over and over again. Patrick found his true solo voice in the fifth AED record, "Baptimcision." "Baptimcision," which Arin Bennett made a return to produce, was the heaviest record AED fans had heard so far. The record was recorded at Beach Road Records in which AED was asked to be a "house band." Arin also produced a video for the track "Shiver," with long time friend Andrew Reed. Patrick took a break between, "Baptimcision" and the last AED record, "Friction In Fiction." Patrick's songwriting was becoming faster and faster and it had actually began hurting him. People hadn't gotten into the last record before they were bombarded with the new AED. Patrick was tired of AED altogether also, and desired a melodic turn. It was obvious he was looking in new directions when "Friction In Fiction" contained more melody than all the other AED records combined, and the total absence of outside instrumentation such as guitar and other percussion. "Friction In Fiction" was Patrick and his computer. And with the last song on the album, "fiction"...AED was dead in 2000. Patrick was still unsatisfied with having to be tied to one project, having as much diverse influences as he had. Musically, within the next year he had built 3 entirely new projects, some which he continues to maintain. These projects served as a major depression clinic for him. Media Violence was formed as Patrick's main project with Carl Berger, a young guitarist and brilliant programmer from industrial rock band, Torna Sunder, that Patrick had discovered while in AED. NeuroeXorcism picked up where AED left off being a solo instrumental outlet for Patrick, which was named after the first song on "Friction In Fiction." The (now defunct) Crucifixation was Patrick's guitar outlet. The first incarnation saw Patrick as guitarist and vocalist, the second saw him as a drummer. The year 2001 also brought about the first Cage Clinic release in 4 years entitled "Minimalist Expression: Sleep Syncopation for the Modern Man; In Class Discussion." It also saw the reformation of the original Breech Doll renamed Breech Of Word because spoken word was added to the new mix. Patrick has also continued writing, painting, and expressing himself and his inspirations through photography. The year 2001 also brought about Dimension One Recordings and Multimedia, founded by Patrick D. McCormick and Carl Berger, in order to nationally distribute not only Patrick and Carl's music but also other electronic/goth/punk acts around VA such In Tenebris and Pulse Under Frequency. And Patrick's life continues to be recorded.
