Artist History
HotSocky
Even though the four met running illegal Mexican fruits and vegetables across the U.S. boarder, “The brief time we spent in dimly lit smoke filled rooms playing twister made us realize that there might be more out there!” says Adam “the Big Banana” Strahl. “Yeah, once you’ve taken a moment to really appreciate the beauty of illegal Mexican fruits and the savvy of Latin vegetables you realize the moments over and you must move on,” states Jerry Stereo a.k.a. "the Bruiser". "Not that we don’t still enjoy the tangy tastes and softness any longer, or those mystical moments of plastic mats and spinners, its just that there’s more we can do for the fellow lover of finer things” chimes in Buzz “Peach Fuzz”.
The four set out one early autumn morning to achieve a new goal, one of much greater proportions, a goal that would give their lives completeness. A lot of driving and a few months later they finally crossed the boarder and decided on a method towards their means. They began touring the states in efforts to ripen their tasty sound and to pound across their strong messages, honest lyrics, and monster guitar sounds to venues far and wide.
The newly formed group chose New York City as it’s head quarters. “We all agree that the strength of a song is actually the song, sure we have guitars that sound bigger than a grape truck and simple sounds, like toy pianos, more complex than vitamin B 12, but our song cores are really the heart of what makes us HotSocky.” Lattimer analogizes. “We try to write our melodies in a way that makes them almost impossible to escape the listeners minds. The quartet comes off as being hard as a watermelon rind, with their massive attack and stage presence, but when you get to the core of HotSocky their melodies and harmonies are sweeter than a cherry.
When asked how they chose their instruments, Jerry Stereo, nick-named for a thwarting he gave some fruit mishandlers, replied ”It’s nothing you can really choose you know, your instrument sort of chooses you, I used to be in charge of washing and polishing the tiny treasures we would haul, now I play guitar. “Squeeze My Lemons” Lattimer would handle picking our harvests, now he plays guitar and does all of the writing. I’m sure you can see what I mean, there’s certain things in life your just meant to do. “I originally wanted to get into lumber sales or dentistry,” Adam adds in, “but when they wouldn’t let me play with drills I agreed to play the bass, the two are really similar.” “I play drums because they remind me of when I was a kid, back in May, and I would hold my breath until my parents would give me cantaloupes with extra sugar, sometimes I would get a couple melons a day.” Buz delivers.
“Our first album (a pear of apples and oranges) mainly dealt with the discrimination of Mexican fruits and vegetables, but our new record (HotSocky) utilizes our big guitars and harmonies to point out a bigger theme, the discrimination of all vegetation, whether it be from Spain, New Zealand or the Congo.” reports Greg.” “Yes, and our rhythms really put the message out with fierce drive, we thought it would exemplify the struggle.” Buz mentions. “We really tried to unify the theme by bringing together all our elements, just the little things, like tiny little pianos or strings, we take our stance and widen it with melodies that leave the listener thinking of sweet things and bright colors.” Greg expands and loosens his belt.” We thought, guitar crunch throughout the record would also get the masses remembering what travesties the unlucky produce endure.” relates Jerry.” We just want people to know that there are magicians that care” Greg mentions, “And we also want people to realize that fruits and vegetables should be treated equally, what ever or where ever they are!”
