Artist description
Cicada are based in Edinburgh, Scotland - It was suggested that we base ourselves in Barcelona but no one in the band spoke any Spanish so that idea was hit on the head, then we thought about basing ourselves in Aberdeen, but again we had trouble with the language and couldn't understand a word anyone was saying. So, after 'mucho el discussiono' we thought 'sod it, let's just stay in Edinburgh. After all, we thought - loads of famous bands come from Edinburgh, bands like..em..the ones that used to wear all the tartan in the seventies, and.. and.... and loads of other bands. And besides, who else in Edinburgh is mixing African and Latin American percussion instruments together with piano, acoustic guitars, and electronic & analogue sounds to create a natural groovy vibe? Alright, but who else is doing all that and are called CICADA? There may be loads in Barcelona, and you might be falling over them in Aberdeen but In Edinburgh - there is only one such band and we - is it. Cicada - just in case you don't know - is a large insect which makes a high-pitched drone. |
