Artist History Shiva was formed in Spring of 1996 by Dan Kaufman and Matt Fisher, better known as founding members and creative force behind Southern California's now defunct Mindrot (Relapse Records). The formidable demise of Mindrot came as no surprise after the departure of Evan kilbourne (Drums/percussion), to pursue other musical ventures through personal and artistic differences. Thus leaving the only logical decision, to retire Mindrot permanently. Leaving under it's belt two full-length albums, three e.p.‚s, four demos and multiple complilation appearances on records, cd and video. A worldwide fanbase never got to experience the eclectic energy of a Mindrot live performance. This only fueled the fire to make Shiva a stronger, more cohesive unit of sheer strength and solidarity, which is the foundation of Shivas‚ strong work ethic. This goal was not far from their grasp. The first element was the addition of permanent Keyboard/Noisemaker, Ben Smith. Ben is better known for his credits in the local underground scene. On Drums/percussion is John Haddad (Dead America, Phobia). John brings his aggressive drumming to the table with a raw and unhindered approach, greatly complimenting the ferocity of the other four members. Cary Petersen completes the line up. His duties on guitar give even more depth and demention to an already guitar driven sound. Shiva crosses the boundaries and breaks the barriers of conventional music. Shiva has released three ep/demos in 1998, 1999 and 2001 (available $5 US ppd from www.Shivamusic.com). Shiva carries the tradition of its' roots in keeping extremely monstrous sounds, pounding, tribalistic, atmospheric. Shiva is an ever-evolving enigma focusing on fusing emotion in the balance of melody and brutality. With intense physical live shows, Shiva has been known to captivate the attention of the most extreme elements of todays music. Shiva is the soundtrack to the Apocalypse.
