Artist description
As of the beginning of December, Jimmy 12" were officially reunited (well, 4/5 were). They played their first "comeback" show last Thursday (6th December) after only 4 days' rehearsal at BarGo in Durban with the awesome Saron Gas on one of the last dates of their Wind-Up tour, to an overwhemingly enthusiastic response - fans instantly took to moshing, stage-diving and singing along to old favourites like "Jimmy 12" " and "Macdonald's Yard," as well as new numbers like "So Many Times" and "Talk."
The band is sounding better than ever, the four-piece format tightening up and focusing the sound and abilities of the band and each member even more than before, the new songs displaying maturity and power, as well as strong melodies and hooks. The band are excited to be writing new material and growing togther as musicians, and can't wait to get back out on the SA tour circuit to play to old fans and to win over new ones, as well as any doubters!
The band plan to tour countrywide in 2002, covering favourite areas as well as places they missed last time - generally working hard and winning the whole country over! There are plans for a full-length album to be recorded in early 2002, and the band are quickly building new material. |

Artist History
Jimmy 12 inch is a rock band of different breed, with a myriad of influences, moods and textures that have somehow blended to form this weird and wonderful but instantly accessible sound – a sound with something a bit different, something special. You could try and pinpoint their influences (they like Deftones, Sublime, Incubus, Everclear, Sum 41, 311 and quiet a few others), but the main ingredient is the chemistry between them that happens when they interpret their influences and experiences (whew!).
And a few they have had (experiences, that is). Formed in June 1999, originally an 8-piece outfit, the lead singer and two MCs quickly fell by the wayside as the band came into its own. After four incendiary performances in the Independent on Saturday, Battle of the Bands at the end of 1999, in which they were finalists, the buzz about the band spread like wildfire with rave reviews in Durban papers. The band sensed that something big was going to happen.
New drummer Adam was recruited in January 2000 and the new outfit made its nationwide debut at 5FMs TDK Sessions at the end of January 2000. Gigs around the Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town areas quickly followed and by March the band was ready to record an EP. They went into RadioPark Studios in Johannesburg with producer Theo Crous (of Springbok Nude Girls fame) and top engineer Neil Snyman and produced Diaphoraspora, a raging 5-track EP showcasing the bands hard, innovative melodic and good-time sound to the full.
The EP was released in June and was very well received around the country. CDs sold quickly at gigs and the band were top sellers at Woodstock 2000. After a brief tour with the Springbok Nude Girls and a very Rock n Roll CD launch at Rivets Bar (in Durbans classy Hilton Hotel), the band was set to go to the next level. Respect from the industry and especially from fans grew as the band performed around the country at top venues and festivals such as Splashy Fen, Easter Rock, Oppikoppi and Woodstock.
They shared the stage (at various intervals) with the likes of Tree63, The Mission, Hothouse Flowers, Saron Gas, Springbok Nude Girls, Plum, Tweak, Watershed and other top SA bands. The second single Even Steven reached No. 2 on the 5FM Modern Rock Chart, one position above that held (for a record 10 weeks!) by the previous single, MacDonalds Yard.
After a long break during 2001, in which the members took time to collect their thoughts and take in some life experiences, the band regrouped to carry on making the music they love and are so good at making. As of December 2001, Jimmy 12 were officially reunited.
They played their comeback show at BarGo in Durban with SAs leading rock band Saron Gas on 6 December to a rabidly enthusiastic response. Fans instantly took to moshing stage diving and singing along to old favorites like Jimmy 12inch and MacDonalds Yard, as well as new numbers like Talk and So many times.
The band is excited to be back gigging and writing new material, which they feel is more mature and powerful, and more focused and defined as a result of the new four-piece format. They look forward to playing their music to old and new fans, and to winning over any doubters. Plans for a full-length album and tours around the country are anticipated for early 2002. See you on the road!

Group Members
NEIL BREYTENBACH: Neil is the bands keyboardist and media/samples man. He is a jazz graduate from Natal Tech and is musically astute and highly creative. He is the brains behind the bands business dealings and handles the planning and organizing. He is known to the band mates as “Tarzan” (dont ask!) and is generally a strapping young lad and all-round good fella to have on your team.
Fave bands: Linkin Park, Sum 41, Incubus and Feeder.
WAREN HIEBNER: Warren is Jimmys nimble-fingered bassist and the bands resident wild-man. He has been playing guitar and bass since his early teens and is now 25. His energetic, funky lines add body and drive to the bands rhythm section, while also providing clever melodic counterpoints to brother Garys guitar. Warren is nicknamed “Narrow” (please, please dont ask!) and also does backing vocals, Barmiztvahs and childrens birthday parties.
Fave Bands: Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus, 311, Incubus and Bob Marley.
GARY HIEBNER: Gary is 21 and is the bands lead singer and guitarist. He is a talented and original songwriter, and has fitted more than comfortably into his new role as front man. He is a spot-on guitarist with precise technique and extensive, innovative chord knowledge. Already a great singer, his voice has a unique tone, and also possesses the same manic energy as his brother. Gary hasnt got a nickname yet, but all the girls like him, and he has great hair……….well think of something.
Fave bands: Sublime, Incubus, 311, Sevendust, System of a Down, Moloko, NOFX and the Deftones.
ADAM STANLEY: Adam is also 21, is Jimmys drummer and does backing vocals. He is currently studying an advanced diploma in Sound Engineering and is interested in producing. He taught himself to play drums and has been playing for about 5 years. He is currently single, fat and unemployed and is known to the band (and only to the band) as “Booger”. This shall not be discussed further and in no way adds to the rosy picture that has just been painted of him. He is, however, quite a good drummer and is great in the sack (haha)! Adam is also a specialist in writing cheesy band biographies and is a fan of “NSYNC and dirty pop”.
Fave bands: Muse, Deftones, 311, Everclear, System of a Down, Incubus, Nirvana, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Foo Fighters, Feeder and NSYNC (for the moves, man).
