    Artist History
The HOT ZEX is a Siberian three-piece pop-noise-rock- and undoubtedly indie-band. Volodya and Anton began making music together in 1992, having been dramatically impressed by My Bloody Valentine's and Sonic Youth's eye-opening art. The first self-released k7 "Sugarbabies" album came in January 1995. It consisted of 5 self-produced tracks which took 12 hours of recording at the 4 track porto-studio. "Sugarbabies" is as unremarkable as most opening shots, but it contains a moving noise cover of The Beatles's "Tell Me What You See". The next January the band recorded 4 new tracks under the "Velvety" title. It was initially used as a demo. "Velvety" had a good press and the band took part in various Russian summer festivals, and even headlined Siberian TV music festival in the Siberian city of Tumen. At the same time the band could not find a music label to release the "Velvety" as an EP. The third January in the history of the band's recording brought another 5 tracks from the "Dual" session. The "Dual" revealed the interest the Hot Zex had for dub culture and the use of the loops in their music. Later in 1997 the "Velvety" and the "Dual" were gathered in k7 release on a local record label. Only 2000 copies were made. Now it's rare, but it's possible to order from American Clairecords: "Super-excellent dreamy and shoegazey pop songs that are absolutely brilliant!" July 1998 HZ decided to record a full length album with acoustic drums. After the August 1998 financial crisis in Russia it become too expensive for the band. Hot Zex had enough time to record just 3 tracks. They were mixed only in 2000. Nevertheless, in August 1999 the band's recording sessions attained a new status with the addition of a new guitarist Mikhail. Since then the band has had numerous fruitful recording sessions and concerts all over Russia. In october 2000 their new "She Could Make Things Perfect" track named as the mp3 of the month by The Bouncing Corporation (Germany). In May 2001 Hot Zex took part in a Japanese international shoegaze compilation with "Skylab Sounds". In May 2002 their "Feel The Light" video was broadcast on MTV Russia. The band finished their 8 track "Album" in 2001. It received good press all over the world. For example, Andy Malt - the editor of British IF E-zine wrote: "One of the best Indie albums I have ever heard.". Another review came from Australian Pee Zine: ":Hot Zex are a pop trio out of Siberia who play a keyboard/electronika kinda pop with soft vocals that could be likened to Jesus And Mary Chain, Ned's Atomic Dustbin and even The Cure at times:" And so on. Now, Hot Zex are currently looking for a label to release the "Album". They are also full of creative ideas and looking for a way to bring them to life.
