Artist History
"Strive to survive but yo we stay alive, writin' music since 1995. So if you like the style and if you catch the vibe, then stop your talkin' shit and just open up your eyes." About 8 years ago, the band that came to be known as Westview emerged from somewhat of a dream. Kristopher Jeschke and Gregory Marnik, who were at the time just rock kids who happened to play guitar, became friends at North Providence High School in Rhode Island. Immersing themselves into the realm of music, the two began jamming out, writing songs, and thinking about their collective future. Exploring multiple styles of music and concluding that all were equally engaging, they decided the music they were to create was to be a hybrid, a spawn of many different musical backgrounds.
Dreams began to come into fruition when the duo clicked with fellow band members Scott Gail, Greg's fraternity brother and longtime jam partner, and Eddy Perdomo, who attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute with Kris. And so began the legacy. With the creation of the Westview sound came the opportunity and necessity to be heard, to move crowds, to break the norm.
There is no clearly defined statement as to what exactly the Westview sound is. All the members of the band contribute to its fresh fusion of rap, funk, reggae, and rock, and it is no doubt that each individual member plays a key role in its driving creative force, a force that knows no borders musically or culturally.
A North Providence Rhode Island native, Gregory S. Marnik a.k.a. J Downs, vocalist and lead guitarist of the group, is one of the founding fathers of the band known as Westview. Downs is undoubtedly the hip-hop influence within the family, and his soulful voice and tight lyrical flows bring the music itself to a higher level.
Representing North Providence, Kristopher M. Jeschke a.k.a. Effuvex, also a founding father of the 703 Family, brings punk influence and his own style of reggae swing into the picture. As a guitarist, he provides sick rhythm with which the other members create, and his vocal melodies and harmonies are huge factors in the presentation of the live show. X is a key player in the composition of Westview's music, and together with J Downs there exists a closeness and musical style that remains unparalleled.
Originally from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Scott Gail is the low end technician and bass player for the band. Dabbling in slap bass as well as Cape Verdean percussion, Scott brings a psychedelic groove element into the music while still keeping his part of the rhythm section tight.
Hailing from the Dominican Republic, drummer and percussionist Eddy "Loco" Perdomo represents funk in its rawest form, and his style remains the main foundation on which Westview's music is based. Along with bassist Scott Gail, Eddy adds a bit of Latin flavor to the band's rhythm section, and he himself proves that good music knows no bounds culturally or creatively.
Westview is not just a band, it is an active representation of what we know as America, un crisol, a melting pot in which people of different backgrounds come together in order to create music that invigorates, stimulates emotion, and in essence, soothes the soul. The band's aim is to reach a variety of audiences, unclassified by age, gender, or race, and to take the music of this generation to the next level. "Slowly growing old with many stories yet to be told, always lookin' forward to see what the future holds." This is life. This is Westview. 703 Baby!!!! |
