Artist History In 1997, when the idea of prototype7 was conceived, the so-called band consisted of Matt Palamara playing the guitar, Chris Boltz on bass, and Dave Bossung taking care of the vocals. The three were best friends from a small town in southern Butler County (PA) called Saxonburg. After a few songs had been compiled, it didn't take long to begin the process of finding a drummer. In the wake of a couple unsuccessful "auditions", and a lack of known drummers in the area, this quest seemed fruitless. However, shortly thereafter, Matt was tipped off about a possible candidate named Steve Harold, living in Cranberry, PA - about 15 miles southeast of Saxonburg. The three met with him to go over some of prototype7's earlier material, and immediately realized that, with heavy, layered drum beats and technical timing, he had the ability and rhythmic style to propel the band in the direction they wanted to go. Prototype7 would remain a four piece for almost the next two years, playing at various venues throughout Butler County and the greater Pittsburgh area. However, as their style of music progressed into a genre of technical new-school hardcore, the need for a second guitarist emerged. John Peterson, an avid fan of the band and good friend of Steve, stepped up to the challenge and brought a new level of intensity to the stage. The band’s music was able to improve quite a bit with the newly found versatility of two guitarists, and prototype7 was to remain as this five piece (Dave, Chris, Matt, John, and Steve) for almost another two years. In 2001, Chris decided to pass on the responsibility of playing the bass to Steve's younger brother Jeff. Jeff Harold was an up and coming bass guitarist whose intense stage presence was warmly welcomed by the rest of the band. The lineup of prototype7 has remained unchanged since the addition of Jeff, however, their music has continued to evolve and their popularity has continued to expand to this day.
