Artist History
No strangers to rock and decadence, Ivan Stanish and Phil Rossi met by chance in late 2001 at Iota Club and Cafe in Arlington, Va. They soon discovered they shared a musical vision. They both wanted to make fresh music and explore new routes of expression. When they got together to play for the first time, their desire to break away from the mainstream trappings of today's music scene served as a catalyst for the creative process. They soon realized that the sum of their abilities and ideas were greater than that of the individual. Candlestick Ashtray was born. Following the depature of drummer Jack Madsen from the group, Ben Mellott joined on as drummer.

Press Reviews
"Hundreds of bands appear and disappear everyday. Many will start a band as a way to cut class, meet chicks, and get into bars while underage. Candlestick Ashtray played a reverse route, staying in their music lessons to - GASP! - learn their instruments as a craft. The result of a chance meeting of the musical minds in early 2002, Candlestick Ashtray runs the rock gamut on their self-titled 4 song E.P. A sign of things to come, CA's CD carries all of Weezer's rock-pop intensity with reckless power trio abandon.
"A sign of things to come, CA's CD carries all of Weezer's rock-pop intensity with reckless power trio abandon?
What does that mean?
Basically, we get the rollicking rocker "Hangover," the 2 minute punk bombast of "Still," the exploding acoustic/electric "Seismic," and the pop-rock harmonies of "Jiggle Rose." CA is desperately trying to prove they can hang in the world of popular rock by showcasing their versatility all on one E.P., and truth be told, they pull it off a lot better than a lot of other bands you might run into at a local club on a Saturday. You’d be glad you showed up early to the bar if Candlestick Ashtray opened the night.
Lead vocalist/bassist Ivan Stanish sounds eerily like Glen Danzig, while guitarist Phil Rossi holds his own in front of the power trio format with equal parts shread and bona fide chops. "Seismic" shows of the percussive ability of drummer Ben Mellot, who keeps the adventurous spirits of Stanish and Rossi in check throughout. Where the lyrics come from is anyone's guess, and will surely improve as the 3 members mesh as a band. Whether CA make it out of the gate together or continue on the band merry-go-round, this CD will always serve as a creative testament to solid musicians making solid music together."-Hidden Tracks Mag.com
