Artist History
With a resounding answer to the blandness of the cookie-cutter commercial rock scene, KURU was formed in 1999. After much moving around, brothers Rob (lead guitar) & Anthony (electronic percussion) Walsh returned to their childhood stomping ground, Jersey City, NJ, where playground mischief lead to a lasting friendship with Robert MacDonald (Rythm Guitar).Through MacDonald they met Paul Meyer (bass), also a native of Jersey City, with whom they created the four-piece band celled Yesterday’s Milk. A falling out within the group followed by a chance meeting at a party, would bring Victor Collazo, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, into the picture. With Victor behind the mic,Rob Won guitar,Paul on bass and Anthony W. on drums ToKe was born. At the very same time Shadi Sawaged, originally from Aman Jordan and a friend of ToKe was at the time playing in a band called Kill The T.V.Some time after Kill The T.V dismantled, a group called Mr Furly was formed featuring Shadi on drums and Rob Mc Donald on guitar.Following Mr Furly's split Toke added Shadi on acustic drums and Rob McDonald as second guitarist and KURU was born.
After writing and playing songs for numerous years on March 2002 KURU stepped into Pearl Studios in Jersey City to record thier first demo tittled,"Dirty Hands Spread Desease".Spending the past few years playing local clubs and bars ,Kuru has drawn quite a following. On stage Kuru unleashes fury and gives the best they have to any audience.Looking to expand their horizons,Kuru strives to surpass their accomplishments. In June of 2003 Kuru welcomed John D (formally from a Jersey City band called Sour)as their new bassist. |
