The biography of
seventeen$crash.
(seventeen dollar crash.)
Originally called Staircase Blue, seventeen$crash. started off as a three man routine, with Adam Call (bass, lead vocals), Will Garrett (guitar, vocals), and Brandon McCarthy (drums, vocals). After a year and a half of playing as Staircase Blue, they expanded by adding singer Sky Robinette, and backup axeman Matt Garrett. With the change in line-up the original members felt it was a different band with a different mission, and decided to switch the name to seventeen$crash.. Sky's part in the band was short lived, due mainly to artistic differences. Shortly after, Matt left the band to join the Marines, and Adam resumed the role of lead vocals, leaving an opening for the rhythm guitar spot. A longtime friend of the band, George Woodruff was more than happy to fill in the void, and bring his own ideas to the group. Now a four man outfit, seventeen$crash. was complete.
The band got their unique name from an incident involving their drummer. Walking from Will’s house, Brandon was hit by a car while he was crossing the street. The fuzz showed up and issued BRANDON a ticket for “randomly walking into the pathway of a moving vehicle”. The fine was, duh, seventeen dollars.
The band's awesome use of harmonies as well as heartfelt lyrics, combined with the driving beat of Brandon's drums and intricate parts from both the bass and guitars make this band one of a kind. Playing mostly shows at parties and basement jam sessions, seventeen$crash. has performed at the Ogden and has completed the recording of their debut album, Accidents Happen. When asked what genre they fall into, the band is lear to put a label on themselves. The band was quoted to have said, “We don’t like putting labels on our band. We don’t limit ourselves to one specific type of music. We write what’s in our hearts and play what we feel.”
After playing together for over three years and fine-tuning their music, the group of friends is ready to expand their horizons. Ready to break away from being just another unknown band, seventeen$crash. feels that they’re ready to take the next step.
