Artist description
Hughes of Green is truly a unique band. A tight group with exceptional energy, moving lyrics and strong Celtic-American influences - Hughes of Green is the band to keep your eye on over the next few years.
A traditional bagpiper and a rock drummer seem like an odd combination - but this is the origin of
Hughes of Green. Coming from very different backgrounds, Nate and Nick met in a college dorm and
unwittingly began to form their own Celtic/Rock sound.
Incorporating traditional Celtic instruments, such as the pennywhistle and uilleann bagpipes, into a
rock sound gives Hughes of Green a unique sound and an ability to expand on their roots.
"Doing what we're doing allows us quite a bit of flexibility," says Nate. "We're not bound by rock or
Celtic traditions, but instead can build on them and create a very unique sound."
Many years later, after the frustration of going through guitarist after guitarist, these two decided on an
adventurous course. They would record an entire album of all original material - with just the two of
them and the help of one long time friend.
After many, many grueling hours in the studio, Hughes of Green is now in the process of mastering
their debut album - "He Was You" with Nick Hughes on drums, vocals and guitar, Nate Green on
Highland and uilleann bagpipes, guitar and pennywhistles and Dave Housel on bass.
Check out the first released track, "Nothing's Pure" and be sure to email the band to join the Huges of Green newsletter and watch for the release of the full album!
