    Artist History
"A long time ago, (most historians are not quite sure when) the Monsters of Japan were hatched from eggs. Sent by aliens some believe to monitor the affairs of the higher arts on earth. Throughtout the ages the Monsters developed a special fondness for sound and music. Becoming quite excited with the evolution of rock n'roll, the Monsters were thrilled with the emergence of Black Sabbath and AC/DC in the seventies: Van Halen (pre-Hagar) and Metallica in the eighties; and there were even some nice hightlights in the nineties with the emergence of Ministry, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. However, as the new millennium neared and passed, their seemed to be a decline in the quality of rock available in the mainstream. Collectively the Monsters decided to declare war on the trendy whiny guy rock infiltrating the masses. With Roast (guitars, throat), Skeeter (bass, throat), Feast (noises, throat), and Honky Donkey (bashing), the Monsters traveled the woods of the world, hiding while rocking out and eating bark. While in Peru, they came upon a Demon seed. A creature so beautiful and wicked she was being tortured and burned by a Peruvian village for being a black goddess. The Monsters saved the lass and took her as their own, naming her Devilicious. She was taught the finer arts of movement and dance. The Peruvians were destroyed. The lineup complete, the Monsters then sent out to save the state of Rock n'Roll. For their first show ever. they decided to open for ska-rock legends FISHBONE. They have never opened for anyone since. The Monsters of Japan do play with other bands, but prefer to have more interesting forms of art take place on the stage, since over saturation is what caused rock's problems in the first place. Their forthcoming CD "The Other Pink Meat" was recorded in New York City; The only city that could properly capture such a lethal dose of intense rock. The band/freakshow is currently based in Asheville, NC. It is believed that aliens told them that there is where the rock was needed the most. As a token to the loyal fans that support real rock, the Monsters always give out candy, and are known for their mighty tasty cookies. Masters of pleasure and pain, and head slammin' tunes, the Monsters of Japan know no emotions but ferocity, and will not stop their quest until rock is rock again. NO MORE WHINY ROCK!!!

FRONT ROW REVIEWS Who: The Monsters Japan Where: Stella Blue When Thursday, Feb. 14 As I watched the girl in the black leather corset and red feather boa slink and squirm on stage, two thoughts occurred to me-- thankfully, both were printable. The first was that a surprisingly large crowd of lonely hearts had come out to see this Valentine's Day show, and the second was that. The Monsters of Japan were far better than I'd expected them to be. Their music borrows almost exclusively from late-1980s heavy-metal bands like Metallica and MegaDeth, but the Monsters manage to add enough panache to the performance to make it all seem new again. It isn't just the sultry constumed dancer that makes their show interesting--it's also the band's clever use of dramatic pauses, rehearsed poses and strange segues. For instance, toward the end of the show, the opening movement of "The Last of The Mohicans" soundtrack played, and the band (in something approaching unison) all did a little choreographed dance. This would later be overshadowed in my memory by the mock torture and ravishing of a female cupid, by that time, the band's theatrics and solid performance in the metal idiom had already won me over.
