Artist History Boris Elkis was born in Moscow, Russia. As a member of a family with a long lineage of world-renowned Russian musicians, it was inevitable that Boris was born with music talent. At the age of five he began studying piano, and at six years of age had composed his earliest pieces. Recognized at a very young age as having exceptional talent, he entered Moscow's finest Gnesins Private School of Music for specially gifted students, where he specialized in composition and piano. He continued his studies at an accelerated rate at Gnesins for the next several years, and then became one of the youngest students ever accepted into Moscow Russian Music Academy, where he studied under Mark Pekarsky, the foremost performer of modern serious music in Russia. With his works gathering critical acclaim, Boris became recognized as one of the most talented young composers of his generation in Russia. Boris performed throughout Russia and Europe, taking cities including Paris and Berlin by storm. At the age of seventeen, Boris left Russia and moved to the the United States. He has worked as a composer, music producer, arranger, and sound designer and scored over 50 documentaries, feature films, national commercials and many other productions. His scores range from scary in -Bugged- to funny in -The Godson- to serious dramatic writing in -Streetwise- and -Divided City- Boris has been described as a composer who creates organic, soulful melodies and themes which are known for being unforgettable. In 2001 his talent was recognized by ASCAP when he was selected from hundreds of submissions from all over the world as one of the very few composers to participate in the annual Film Music Workshop, where his music was performed by an orchestra of top Los Angeles musicians. Boris created a state of the art music studio located in Studio City, California, where his company Monumental Sounds is based.
