Artist History
Sarasota, Fl. based SINISTER SOCIETY, was formed in the summer of 2002 with the collaboration of the finest metal musicians in the Tampa Bay area. Formerly known as DEVOUR with a slightly different line-up, DEVOUR was originally a death metal band that had several noted performances including The Tampa Bay Metal Awards in 1994 opening for DEICIDE, MALEVOLENT CREATION, and MONSTROSITY.
Feeling a genre change was needed; the band started writing material with their new line-up. After six long months, SINISTER SOCIETY chose Rick Duncan and Paradox Studios to record the fruits of their labor. Threshold, a digitally recorded 5-song demo was released in March 2002, and since has proved its worth by local performances and great response on mp3.com/sinister_society
From an influential standpoint the band says Slayer, Meshugga, Atheist and Pantera are at the top of their list, but that their music is heading a direction the metal community has never heard before.
Chris Baylor(guitar), formerly a bass player of ten years, moved through several local projects such as Grayne (rap metal), The Ben Jackson Group (hair metal) and DEVOUR (death metal) before again joining forces with Ronnie Patterson to form the hard hitting force known as SINISTER SOCIETY.
Ron Boehm(guitar) left the Detroit, MI. music scene to seek his former DEVOUR bandmates in Florida to start writing songs for a new breed of hardcore heavy metal. On the current SINISTER SOCIETY demo Threshold, the acoustic piece Prelude to Pain, demonstrates his harmonic ability and has gained great notoriety nationwide. As a result, Ron is currently writing a progressive acoustic album, to be released late 2002.
Ronnie Patterson(drums), brother of the legendary Roger Patterson(ATHIEST), started DEVOUR in 1991 with the help of Chris Baylor. Two demos, Frustration(1991) and Inhumane Existence(1992), were reviewed by Bori Voj Krign (Metal Maniacs) and Oliver Recker (Metal Hammer), only to receive excellent reviews on Ronnie's drum playing. The demos have lead Ronnie to receiving fan letters worldwide.
T.C. Hanno(bass) rocked upstate New York area with his band DISTORTIA. Their single Purify my soul, gained considerable airplay on 93.3WCIZ FM Radio. After relocating to Florida, he had performed in several local bands and studio projects around the Tampa Bay area before being recruited by Ronnie Patterson and Chris Baylor for SINISTER SOCIETY.
Jason Werner(vocals) graced his presence upon us during auditions for the lead vocal spot after about 3 months into the project. We were in awe by his vocal ability, dedication and the intellectual level that he brought with him. We were on the same wavelength with him from the beginning, which is definitely not easy to do. Jason’s voice will definitely be a hardcore metal force to be reckoned with.
