Artist History
In February 2002, Todd South (formerly of Hippy Dye Cowboy, Blindman's Holiday), Lenny Supera (Lenny's Lunatics, Cap n' Soup) and Cap Stapp (Cap n' Soup, Buena Vista Budz) got together for an informal jam session. Having "met" via MP3.com, no one in the room could have predicted that a new band was forming. The chemistry and energy during that first session would prove to be the start of something great and wholly unexpected.
After trying on several names (all of which were thankfully retired), the newly minted band finally turned to a Todd South original song for inspiration. Band names really need to be "played in" for them to finally feel right; Burning Peace seemed to fit the bill after its performance (open mic) debut. Once they had a name, Burning Peace attacked the local open mic scene with gusto, working out new song arrangements and gaining a following of locals music fans.
The members of Burning Peace have had varied performance and recording careers, but all agree that this band is by far the most fun they've had. Playing and working together as performers and songwriters has proven to be a wonderful reminder why they became musicians in the first place! The fact that all three members are singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists makes for a powerful and extremely flexible combination that really shines during live performances. |

Group Members
Lenny Supera
Lenny Supera grew up diggin' '70's AM radio, as well as KISS and Alice Cooper albums. In his teens, he got into heavier stuff like Van Halen, Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc., picked up a guitar, and within a year was playing all over the Reno/Carson City area. Around the age of 21, he was inspired by guitarists such as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai to start recording guitar instrumental albums, although he was also inspired by studio masterpieces like The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds", The Beatles' "Revolver" and Todd Rundgren's "Something/Anything".Lenny has released three acclaimed guitar albums (Fool's Gate, Technical Difficulties and Comin' At Ya). For samples, check out the Lenny Supera mp3.com site! Lenny's Lunatics started in 1999 when Lenny's pop sensibilities finally took over and he started writing all these songs with lyrics. The "Snarl" album (released April 2002) features eight new songs and the "Further Down" dance mix (a personal favorite!). Lenny's tremendous guitar chops and soaring high vocals provide a fantastic musical range to Burning Peace performances and recordings. Lenny's non- musical interests include swimming at Pyramid Lake and 5-10K running. For more info on Lenny and his other projects, visit his homepage.
Todd South
Todd began singing and playing piano at age 5, wrote his first songs and taught himself to play guitar at age 12; sang with various choirs and youth groups including pop, madrigal, opera, and jazz; has performed with numerous bands singing lead vocals and playing whatever instrument the band of the moment requires (acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, percussion, etc.) for crowds as large as 50,000; has written more than 150 songs and has been self-producing his own recordings & albums since childhood. Classically trained as a singer, Todd's own music has always been centered on strong vocal harmonies and minimalist, melodic arrangements. During the late 80's, Todd worked professionally on stage and as a session musician, but eventually turned to working in the computer network industry to support his growing family. After a 7 year "dry spell", Todd began to write his best and most memorable songs with Lisa Callahan, a collaboration that become a marriage in 1998! From 1994-2001, Todd, Lisa, David Lok, and Sterling Brown wrote and recorded music for the Hippy Dye Cowboy project. Much of the music from this period has now been adopted and rearranged for Burning Peace. Although for several years thousands of fans have been listening to Hippy Dye Cowboy songs via the Internet or on CD, Burning Peace marks the first time this music has been performed live since Todd's 1996 solo tour of the southwest and northeast United States. Todd and his wife own & operate their own business (NevadaPages Internet Services) and spend a great deal of time chasing after their four children, all of whom enjoy singing and playing music with their freaky ol' dad. Jim "Cap" Stapp
Originally from the NYC area, Cap's musical influences came right out of the Woodstock Generation of the late Sixties. Cap received his first drum set as a Christmas present in 1968. Cap was truly inspired by a blossoming musical environment and his experiences while sharing a high school music class with Al Di Meola and Van Manakas. Reflective of the Greenwich Village style, Cap started as a percussionist with David Oatfling and various locals bands including Hickory Wind.
The Eighties brought a switch from drums to acoustic guitar and fifteen years of solo projects. The dawn of a new era began in 1995 with the experimental sounds and drum circle sessions of the Buena Vista Budz, an ever-changing line of musicians, poets and pranksters. In 1996-1997 Cap, along with Rodney Swann and Shanell Smith, formed the all-percussion ensemble The Gathering with the occasional guest appearance by flutist André Walton. Cap's ability to easily shift between hand drums and guitar led he and Rodney to join forces with Jay Fail (guitar) on the Abazär project.
With the arrival of the new millennium, Cap teamed up with Lenny Supera to form the acoustic duo Cap n' Soup, which eventually led to teaming with Todd South and forming Burning Peace. |
