Artist description
It's not often that a band comes out these days with something heavy, clever, and hypnotically groovy. Shatter Instinct is Canada's newest expression of music and rhythm. They come from scattered sectors of Ontario. Fans of heart crunching riffs and smooth melodies are asking, "Where have these guys been hiding?" To sum up the Impression left by Shatter Instinct's arrival in a word: impact. |

Artist History
Musically, it all starts with the influences. With Shatter Instinct the influences are subtle, but some familiar hints pop up in all the right places. There are the complicated, textured movements of bands like Tool and Rush. There're a few fistfuls of heaviness that bring to mind Pantera, Metallica, and Sevendust. Shatter Instinct arrives at the party with experimental, eclectic, and skilled reminders of the likes of Primus, Faith No More, and Dream Theater. Add a dash of melody and sensibility from mainstays like Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd, and you've certainly got a band that takes the best from what they've heard, and pushes it all to the next level. There's a lot of schooling here, but these guys aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.

Group Members
Live, there's an energy that gets everyone's heart beating. Shatter Instinct explodes. The music is, to put it simply, dynamic. You'd be hard pressed to find a better rhythm section anywhere. Matt Rock plays with the precision and discipline of a surgeon, all the while violently smashing the drums with tremendous power and abandon. And whether it's sliding and grooving on his fretless, or popping and slamming on his good old four string, Craig Estrella's bass playing is always solid, aggressive, and funky. It's the crunch and thickness from Craig's brother Kevin that truly set the songs in motion. Kevin Estrella's guitar chords and riffs come from another world, forcing the music along with a scream and wail that's not been heard in a long time. And whether crooning the laments of modern life, or locked in a pained roar brought on by yearning or disgust, Jeff Dantowitz's strong vocals capture the ears and minds of the audience. Together the four ingredients become a cacophony of sweet notes: energy, dynamics, texture.

Press Reviews
Socially, politically, and metaphysically, Shatter Instinct is a manifold response to the existing world. The band promotes tolerance and peace, and chooses to explore the exceptional circumstances of human existence on the small and large level. They take on any topic, particularly the outshining or unpleasant.
Like their music, their lyrics and thoughts push the envelope, hoping for enlightenment or evolution. To move on, we must annihilate the status quo. We must shed our skin. We must eliminate the already...
Shatter Instinct.
