Artist History
Satélite burst onto the exploding Latin Alternative music scene in 1998 with its noirish brand of Latin Alternative inspired by global Electronica. Rick Jeschke Deliz, a renowned guitarist from Puerto Rico who has moonlighted as a side-musician for Christian Castro, Paulina Rubio, Joy Enriquez, Vilma Palma E Vampiros, El Vez, Lysa Flores, The MiGs, Sergio Arau and Pastilla, formed Satélite with vocalist Jamie Perlman, ex-singer of the Argentine rock band rip who in 1995 released Papa Inflable on Resiste! Records (1995). The pair then recruited Argentine drummer Ronnie Buder formerly of Radio Kaos (EMI), and Mexican bassist/DJ, Moises Baqueiro, also member of the multicultural L.A. group Bayú, to round out Satélite's lineup.
In May of 2000 Satélite was awarded "Independent Band of the Year" at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards, thereby solidifying its reputation as a powerful new voice on the scene. Their participation in the prestigious SXSW 2000 Music Conference held in Austin, Texas also earned them accolades as the only Latin Alternative Rock band featured in the ASCAP industry showcase. Throughout its career, Satélite has shared the stage with international acts from both sides of the border, such as: The Mission UK, American Hi Fi, Jumbo, Zurdok, La Lupita, La Gusana Ciega, La Mosca Tse Tse, Ely Guerra, Illya Kuryaki and The Valderramas, Los Amigos Invisibles, Bloque, El Otro Yo, Erica García, Arbol, Sol D' Menta, Terrestre, Plankton Man and Los Super Elegantes, capturing the attention of fans and industry alike. They have earned critical acclaim from publications such as LA Times, New Times, La Banda Elástica, No Cover, San Francisco Bay Guardian, ¡Boom!, Pulse Latino, ASCAP Playback, Al Borde, La Opinión, and CMJ New Music Report.
Known for their energetic live shows, the L.A.-based quartet has cultivated a strong fan base in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Satélite made its mark in Argentina with a track included in 30,000 CD-ROMs distributed to readers of PC Users Magazine. They recently debuted before film audiences with a track in the feature film 12 Horas from Muvifilms and included in the soundtrack on AJ Records and video clip on the DVD. They also landed a track titled shine (sung in English) for the short film Biker's South and after an extensive talent search across the nation, Satélite was selected for a Carl's Jr. commercial that has invaded the TV and radio waves for over eight months and counting.
Ilumina, the band's debut CD self-released in 2001 on Satélitemúsica Records and distributed by DLN Distribution in United States and Puerto Rico, contains ten tracks, including remixes from NORTEC act Terrestre (Palm Pictures) and electronic Mexican bands Kinky (Sonic 360/Nettwerk) and Niño Astronauta. Highlights include the first single Esta Vez, in 'organik' and 'elektronik' versions, the upbeat second single Lucir, the college radio hits Cuerpos Ambiguos, Endora'o, Diablo and L.A. dance club favorite La Sangre (a Spanish-language cover of 'The Blood', from legendary 80's British rock band The Cure). Ilumina has already graced the Top 20 on the CMJ Ñ Alternative College charts and Top 50 on the much heralded KCRW 88.9FM 'Morning Becomes Eclectic Los Angeles program. Video clips for the tracks Esta Vez, Diablo, Cuerpos Ambiguos and Lucir, (the latter created completely in breakthrough computer graphic animation and recently nominated at the SXSW Film Festival 2002). In January 2002, an Avenida Nueve compilation album sampler with two Satélite tracks was released and promoted in USA, Spain, Chile, Argentina and Mexico. Satélite is currently writing new material and plans are underway to license 'Ilumina' overseas
