Artist History
Stu Kinzel is native to Portland, Or. and has been working in the music and instrument business for over twenty-five years. He is well known for Slide guitar and dobro playing, and has earned national attention for both his playing and vocals. Since the late 70's, Kinzel has performed in numerous NW club bands, and has opened for noted national acts (including Lonnie Brooks and Elvin Bishop) as well as toured the NW and Hawaii. Kinzel plays Martin and National acoustic guitars, and Fender electric guitars. Kinzel also plays antique Recording King guitar.
Lynnann Hyde is from San Diego, Ca. and has been performing at clubs and events all over the West Coast since the mid-90's. One of a few women worldwide to win endorsement from Hohner Harmonicas, Lynn fronted her own combo until 1997.She is also endorsed by Baldoni Music Co. Hyde uses Hohner harmonicas exclusively, Stagi 20-button concertinas as well as antique Salanti melodeons and free reed instruments.
Since 1997, Kinzel and Hyde have played countless club dates, festivals, and special events. They have garnered award nominations for their acoustic act as well as their electric Blues band. With three Cd's featuring mostly live, acoustic, original material, Kinzel and Hyde have received great reviews in both Blues and mainstream publications alike.
Kinzel and Hyde helped to produce the Acoustic Roots and Blues Festivals (2000 and 2001) as well as Third Sunday workshops and traditional music clinics. They have done musical ministry at Sheridan Federal Correctional Facility in Sheridan, Or. and also independently teach guitar, dobro, harmonica and concertina. The artwork on the opening page of this website was created by Tim Levitt, FCI Sheridan.
Kinzel & Hyde have independently participated in the nationally recognized "Blues In (the) Schools" program as artist/educators since 1996.Through their diligence, dedication, leadership and artistry, Stu Kinzel and LynnAnn Hyde revived a long-dead Cascade Blues Association program in 1999, and Blues In (the) Schools {BIS} became a viable Arts and Humanities program. Ethos, Inc. (Portland's only non-profit music education center!) has been the sound and venue coordinator for BIS presentations since 2000. LynnAnn Hyde is honored to direct the BIS program, as well as to perform at countless BIS, children's and family shows and events.BIS is an early introduction to the exact nature, origin and sound of America's first art form, the Blues.Kinzel & Hyde have performed BIS presentations at the Waterfront Blues Festival, The Acoustic Roots&Blues Heritage Festival, Portland Saturday Market "Children's Day", as well as other events and many schools, community centers, and youth venues.Kinzel & Hyde have produced each BIS Benefit Concert, and helped to raise thousands of dollars for BIS presentations all over the Portland Metro Area.
