Artist description
Based in Rochester, New York, Uforkestra is a progressive rock & techno-improv ensemble striving to combine instrumental dexterities with lyrical observations of human behavior, a healthy predisposition toward the paranormal, humor, and a near-dysfunctional hankering for technology. In short, they are weird and wired.
Keeping comfortably distant from the petrified forest of today's recording industry, Uforkestra has generated a thriving home-based hotbed of original sound creation. In the grand tradition of sonic pioneers like Negativland and Frank Zappa, band members produce and press their own CDs full of songs, improvisations, found speech and humorous aural montages. As well, they create an ever-expanding collection of loops, soundscapes and technotextures suitable for commercial broadcast media. The ensemble's live performances feature spoken word improvisations over breathtaking atmospheres, as well as songs that cross through progressive rock, rap, metal, fusion, jazz, and folk. Transcendent visual accompaniment to the music is generously parceled out to the audience; pristine digital sound quality is emphasized; and decibel levels are kept within healthy limits so that listeners do not go home with damaged ears.
