Artist History
Created at Estacio de Sa University, Rio de Janeiro, in 1986, following the proposition of joining students around the goal of Free Improvisation (concept that allows you to manipulate any musical or formal elements to develop an unlimited art language).
Since then, the musicians have been researching the principal vanguard propositions raised in the XX century: Neoclassicism, Atonality, Modalism, Aleatory Music, Jazz, Free Jazz, ECM Sound, Brazilian Folk Rhythms, Egberto Gismonti and Hermeto Pascoal. This material is discussed, analysed, recreated and used by OBG with a Brazilian cultural point of view, through compositions, arrangements and collective creation works.
As a musical movement, the group assumes an ethical, artistic and essential cultural attitude, in opposition to commercial approach and search for immediate success, which is very common nowadays. In fact, OBG's touchstone is the complete liberty of action and creation of a concept of music and musicians, where compromise with progress and evolution is inalienable. |

Press Reviews
"The Brazilian Guitar Orchestra is an unique formation of this kind in Brazil. Its young and devoted musicians have acquired an unity rarely reached by other groups: balanced sound, integration and musical discipline. The perfect mixture of guitar tones create a refreshing effect in the executions, with creative arrangements that emphasize collective passages in a wide range of textures, refined and sophisticated harmonies with elegance in the conduction of the guitar voices.
On March 14th 1995, when I reviewed the Orchestra's album in the pages of the newspaper "O GLOBO", I emphasized the importance of that edition, the quality of interpretation, the technique of the musicians, and the pure definition of the guitars in different tones and characters.
Formations with that quality level must be preserved for what they mean in artistic and cultural fields. It is unusual to hear music with such excellence. On the other hand, it became rare, been put aside by most of the people, specially those who desire eagerly to climb the hit parade.
Although the majority ignore or deny, there is a musical truth supported in melodical quality, aesthetic beauty, sound balance and inspirated executions. The music of the Brazilian Guitar Orchestra reflects that truth."
