Press Reviews
From Snackcake 'zine http://www.snackcake.comGo Pound Salt[s/t]Thunderbox RecordsWow. Another local band that doesn't suck. This is GPS's debut as far as I can tell and what a doozy it is. "Figure In Your Mind," the Superchunck-ish first track, hooked me right off the bat. I hear a heavy duty Husker influence ca. New Day Rising with these boys (or maybe it's "No Names No Faces'" similarity to that album's "I Apologize"). Minneapolis rears its head again with the Replacements-esque "Build It Back." One may construe these comments as negative but the fact is I'm overjoyed with this record. These guys are not imitating the aforementioned bands, they're taking from them, just as Mould and Westerberg took from those before them. Great songs, fierce delivery and top notch production from Decal's Bob Conlon - it all adds up to one of the best local releases I've heard in a long, long time. (TGS) |
