Artist description
I regret to inform all fans and friends of FaT MooKeN, of the untimely passing of our singer/songwriter and guitarist, and friend, Adam Knapp. He will truly be missed. Check out some tunes from "Green Room" featuring Adam on guitar and lead vocals. ****FaT MooKeN is a high-energy Power-Pop Trio from Albany NY. Their music is ear candy perhaps... and easy to swallow at that. Bubble gum pop with a powerful edge. Like many prescription anti-depressant medications,FaT MooKeN will put you in the best of moods. Quick, short, and to the point: Songs designed with Attention Deficit Disorderin mind. No lengthy guitar solos. No depressing “Alternative” lyrics. No self-gratifying 10 minute jams. Just real music, about real things, written by real people. |

Press Reviews
Merge Magazine Online Review: Tim Reynolds, Small Axe, FaT MooKeN, Attic of Love Oct. 1 , 1999 @ Northern Lights By: R S.Root. "Ok, I should precede this review to let you all know how I pass my judgement. Number one: I am only one man, my judgement and or review of a performance is merely opinion. In that opinion plays many psychological factors, of which I will not go into. Number two: Pussibility factor, or for the ladies, the Sausage factor (yes I will detriment my manhood to give women a complement to the Pussibility scale). This is the potential meter gauging possible hooking up at the show. Number three: THE BONER METER. This is not a sexual gauge, but only a description as to the level of excitement the performance gave to the audience, and myself. That out of the way, let's get down to business shall we? As I entered Northern Lights, I saw exactly what I thought I would see. Little tight teeny-bopper girls looking for a glimpse of that sweet "Tim guy" who plays with Dave Matthews. Oh, but were they in for a surprise!First billed on the night, Attic of Love, who, I will say it, I missed. Ok, Ok, I was delayed because of a sweet little midget stripper; named Skittle because of her hard candy coated exterior, and warm fruity interior! Next up was Fat Mooken. Right off the bat, the Mooken's were tight, power-pop, intertwining sweetly crafted vocal harmonies with fun, up-beat numbers. Immediately, the attention by the female population of the audience was evident and ole' Root just sat back and enjoyed the view! God Bless You Mooken! Overall I enjoyed what Fat Mooken played, even though it is not what I typically listen to. Some key songs: "Can't Swim", "Down Under" (cover of that Men at Work song), "Kissing Ass" (great lead harmony). Much props go out to Fat Mooken's stage dancer -LaShawn? He was doing this dance move to Fat Mooken's "Butterfly" which simulated, say, when a guy slaps a girls ass while she is doing the booty-shake on his sausage. Awesome! My type of entertainment! The pussibility factor (for a male looking to hook up with the audience)- 4 out of a perfect 5! Sausage factor (I guess the chicks dig the band)- 4 out of 5. Root's BONER METER- 3 out of 5.I really enjoyed the next band, Small Axe! Their sound kind of reminded me of old Monster Magnet or the Melvins, or say like dirty-nasty-bar, Budweiser drinking, road warrior rock'n'roll with analog keyboards. Small Axe is only a three-piece, but I truly did respect their ability to work through their material and incorporated the analog keyboard sounds while not losing the intensity of the song or the attention of the crowd. Singer D.J. sure did deliver that dirty rock sound with tantalizing lyrical subject and potent delivery.Pussibility factor- 2 out of 5 (they were really appealing to the male segment of the audience) Sausage Factor- 4 out of 5 (I guess the ladies could go into the quasi-mosh pit of sweaty young men to get their cookies off). Root's BONER METER- 5 out of 5 (they enthralled me with some powerful, and unique sounding music).Out came little freak boy guitar-virtuoso Tim Reynolds. Well, I say freak boy because all the little boys and girls who were expecting to see a nice spectacle-wearing acoustic guitar playing chap, saw a man donning a leather "gimp-vest" and dog collar, gurgling out "push-it" and "masturba-shion". Tim is a great guitar player, I give him that, but his songs lack a groove. His band was funky and work in cool time signatures, great for the tech-head musician, but sucky for the common music listener. Also, Tim's singing ability lacks. I tell ya, the crowd echoed my sentiments about Tim Reynolds in this review as they quickly thinned out following his fifth song. Tim, your music sounds good in, say, a GAY PORN MOVIE, not in a rock club where the Root resides!Pussibility factor- 0 out of 5 (like he's ever played w/ any!). Sausage factor- 5 out of 5 (great for the "boy on boy" thing, if you know what I mean). Root's BONER METER- 0 out of 5 (you think I would even think of any "boner" related topic while that little peepee lover was playing!) Until Next Time, The ROOT." |
